QUICK! What Am I Supposed to Do?!
I'm 11 and ever since I've turned vegetarian, I've been having frequent stomachaches and I've been getting sick more and more!. My mom says to be a vegetarian when I'm older and when I don't need those crucial vitamins as much!. I really want to be a vegetarian, and I try my best to get the most out of soy-products, tofu, veggies and fake-meat!. My mom insists on me turning back to a meat-eater until I'm older and developed!. What should I do!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
maybe you can eat fish and eggs as your protein!. maybe that will help ease your mom!. my boyfriend eats meat but i only allow him to buy cage free, free roaming eggs!. i figure its a compromise!. its better than the other way!. =]
you also need to search more about vitamins and what you need as a growing 11 year old!. i know women need more iron and calcium in their diets!. and if you must take a supplement, i was told to take them together to make sure it absorbs correctly!.
hope you stick with your cause!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would say less fake meats, and more rice and beans!. Sometimes the mock meats cause me problems too!. I'm sure you probably already know this, but just in case!.!.!.!.!.It is VITAL that you take a vitamin B12 supplement!. I've been a vegan for about a year now, and i use very little of the fake meats!. There are so many variations you can make with a simple beans(or refried beans) and rice burrito by adding veggies and different sauces!. It's also very important that you get enough calories, as some vegetarians do not!. Hope this helps, good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It doesn't sound like you have the most well-rounded diet, and it doesn't sound like you're supplementing with any kind of multivitamin!. Ask your mom to go to with you to a dietician who can speak to you both about any risks/benefits to being vegetarian ad your age, as well as give you a proper diet plan!. This way, your mom knows what you need and isn't worried, and you aren't just making it up as you go along!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
You are probably eating way too much cheese and milk products, which is causing you to be come lactose intolerant (b/c you are using up your lactase enzyme faster than your body is producing it!.)
Otherwise I don't see how it is making your stomach upset!.
I had stomach aches 3-4 times a week, or more - definately not less- and once I cut out the cheese and milk , and went vegan I have not gotten sick at all in 2 months!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

see a dietitian!. they can assure your mother that being a vegetarian is perfectly safe and they can also show you how to get a well rounded diet!.
you also need to find out why your stomach isn't feeling well!.!.!.!.think about what you eat that makes you not feel well!. you could have a condition like lactose intolerance (dairy foods would upset your stomach), celiac disease (gluten from wheat), or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)!. it may have NOTHING to do with the fact that you're a vegetarian!.
see a dietitian to convince your mom it's okay to be veg, and see a doctor to solve the problem of your stomach aches!.
good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

So do some deep intensive research and not just the first thing that comes up in google and yahoo search!. You are going to have to make sure you get what you need to grow or you could wind up in the hospital with malnutrition!. You need more then soy-products, tofu, veggies and fake-meat to go vegetarian!. You need find alternatives for the vitamins and proteins lost by not eating meat!.
You also need to understand that meat eaters can go longer between meals!. Look at any of the carnivores!. Some have a big meal of meat and go days before eating again!.
Herbivores on the other hand, like cows, horses, sheep!. They eat all the time, just to keep going!. You are going to have to eat more then you did before in order to grow!.
Edit: Your diet is not good for anyone, let alone a growing child!. Like someone else said, go see a dietician with your mom if she'll do it!.
