I'm new at work and we have a mouse?!

Question: I'm new at work and we have a mouse!?
I have been at my new job for almost two months!. I am definitely at the bottom and my opinion doesn't count for anything yet!. We have at least one mouse in the building!. A pest control person came the other day and put out glue traps, including one under my desk!. I wanted to just throw it away as soon as he left, but I know I will get in trouble!. I work in a school, and I know it's not good to have mice around kids, but I don't want a poor creature who's just trying to be warm to be tortured! What should I do!? If a mouse is caught in the trap, is there anyway I can set it free outside without hurting it or myself!? If I "accidently" stepped on the trap before it catches anything, would it prevent mice from getting stuck on it!? I am really torn, and I don't know what to do!. I put this in the vegetarian/vegan board because I thought there might be some like minded people with ideas!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I had a similar thing happen at a company I used to work at!. I went out and bought humane (non-lethal) traps and put these down myself!. I caught the mouse (two over several days actually) and then took them out to some derelict farm buildings a few miles away and released them there!. It might be difficult when you are so new at the company though and your opinion probably doesn't count for much yet!. There are usually kinder alternatives if people would only take the time and trouble to look for them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Is there a way you could convince the principal that the kids are learning to be cruel to animals because of the glue traps!? Can you convince them that getting some kind of trap that would allow you to release the mouse in a convenient environment would be better for educational purposes!? Is there any other person of the staff that thinks like you!? Maybe they would support you as well!. Can you blame it on the kids for the "disappearance" of the glue trap!? Good luck to you and the mouse!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Its called a 'Havahart' trap!. It a humane way of trapping rodents (and other creatures unharmed)!. However, you may have to foot the bill yourself!. But if youre set on not harming these mice, then go for it!.
Good luck, Miss Doolittle!.!.!.

You can try looking up natural mouse repellents online and sprinkle it not only around the traps, but all over the office!. If one trap is under your desk you can definitely "accidentally" step on it!. when questioned, just play dumb and say 'oops! I must have stepped on it without realizing it!'Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most hardware stores sell humane traps that are like long metal boxes!. The rodent is lured in by a piece of food and then s/he is trapped inside!. When you find the rodent in the trap take the rat a fair distance from the school and release him/her!. Keep the trap in case the rat decides to show up again!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Watch the glue trap and when you see a mouse in it, take it outside and pour vegetable or olive oil on the board!. That will release the mouse from the glue board!. Do this with heavy leather gloves because mice carry fleas, ticks and may bite you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Is it, by any chance, connected to a computer!?

Get real mice spread the plage and other nasty stuff!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with rob lou!. Pick your battles!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Whenever I go visit my parents, they always seem to have mice, and all those glue mouse traps!.

I agree with the first poster!. This is what I usually do when a mouse is caught in one of those glue traps: I take some oil (vegetable oil usually is the cheapest) and pour it on the part of the mouse stuck on the trap (usually it's legs and whole underside)!. The mouse usually struggles it's way off without me touching it!. Otherwise, I use a twig or something to pry it off!. also, I do this at least a block or two away from the house so it doesn't find its way back!.

I actually did this last weekend when I was visiting my parents!. The mouse came off on its own with just an ounce of oil!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Though a dilemma, because you don't want to harm life, it is essential to get rid of rodents and other pests if you have an infestation, and an infestation in a school is unthinkable!.!.

Unfortunately mice don't come singly, you have more than one mouse - they move in en masse and breed very quickly - so catching them singly and putting them outside isn't really a practical option!.

If taken outside they soon find their way back in, and if you take them far away you're taking them to their deaths anyway!.!.

There is no point in being sentimental about mice - they are a huge health hazard and a danger!.!. A danger because they need to gnaw constantly and will present a very real fire risk by gnawing on electric cables!. A health risk because they spread disease - they are there for your food and will contaminate that; mice urinate and defecate constantly and that will be spread around wherever they go!. Each female mouse can have 5 - 10 litters per year of up to 13 young each time; each of the new born mice will be able to breed at about 7 weeks!. Do the maths and see how quickly the population will increase – you’ll never catch them all!.

Glue traps are really unnecessarily cruel though!. The idea of kids seeing mice struggling in agony is awful - the mice that get their faces stuck as they struggle and suffocate as a result are the lucky ones!.

Could you speak to someone about asking the pest control people to put down bait instead!? Tell your boss there are plug-in devices that emit a noise inaudible to humans but intolerable to rodents and to other pests like cockroachesWww@FoodAQ@Com

Pick you battles!. This is key in anything in life!. This mouse is not your battle!. Hard as it may be!. You have to let them do their job to get rid of the mouse!. If it is stuck to that pad you will kill it if you try to take it off (I know, I worked in a store and I tried to free the thing, just as you would like to do, and I tried to peel him off but it only ripped his skin off and he died anyway) You must also be careful and not get bit by the mouse because he will be scared out of his wits being stuck and will probably bit anything that comes near it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I, like you, dont like killing things!.!.!.but for health's sake you have to use MICE BAIT!.!.!.

Mouse will eat it then die by itself!.!.!.!.youll find it when it starts to smell!.!.!.either that or you might get a nice mouse family in your building!. !.!.!.
