Question for vegans and animal rights activists?!
How do you feel about medicines of animal source such as porcine insulin, which comes from pigs, to treat diabetes!? And would you use it if it was necessary to your health!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegan, though not an animal activist!.
I'm vegan in order to minimise my contribution to animal suffering and exploitation as far as is possible!. But that's not the same as being a martyr!. I value human life way over animal life, and I owe my own life to animal tested drugs and procedures and to medicines that included ingredients of animal source!. It never crossed my mind to refuse them and I'd do the same again if necessary!.
If effective non-animal alternatives to insulin can be made, well and good!. Meanwhile diabetic vegans will continue to use the drugs that are available!.
I wish there were effective ways to produce all medicines without animal involvement at any stage!. So far, there are not!.
I hadn't heard of or considered the use of animal organs for transplantation; I'm uneasy about it, but I think everyone has to be honest and ask themselves what they would do if given this option for a member of their family who would otherwise die!. And I think most of us know what answer we would give if being honest!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that alternative can and should be discovered!. If it was necessary for my health I would have no choice for the time being but I would feel extremely horrible just as if I had killed a human to save my life!. But hey you have to ask yourself are you willing to lose your life!? I think we all would say no if put in that situation at this time and date!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
about the porcine insulin, scientists are coming up with restriction enzymes to help make insulin cuz people of different backgrounds (religions and values or whatever) are not into the pork thing!. so that i am not worried about!. animal organs!? um!.!.!.do i look like a baboon to you!? if i need a heart transplant, i would like the use of a human heart!.

To the first question: It's perfectly fine!. And yes I would use it!. I am a Type 1 diabetic and depend on insulin to remain alive!. Why would I die just to leave a pig untouched!. It's an advanced form of natural selection!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
