Should a vegan or vegetarian support companies such as...?!
Those that create animal products as well as non animal products!?
This is being debated in my high school debate class!. We have a classmate that is vegan and he puts kraft balsamic dressing on his salads at lunch!.
I feel that he should not use any product from a company that also uses animal products if he is a vegan!. By doing so, he is supporting them to exploit animals!.
His arguement is is that it's not an animal product and it's okay to use because by not buying something such as ranch dressing, he's not supporting their exploiting of animals!.
So what are your thoughts/opinions!? I'd appreciate any, as I have to debate this tomorrow and I'd like to hear both sides before I do this!.
Thanks in advance! Www@FoodAQ@Com

A vegan or vegetarian really shouldn't support any companies, though especially those that profit off of the exploitation of animals, people or the earth!. If you give Kraft or Coca Cola or Yum! Foods money you are helping them do what they do regardless of what you buy!. If you were using Kraft salad dressing that was dumpstered then fine but if you are purchasing it you are buying into that company and their exploits!. The best thing to do is try and get local organic foods and make your own dressings out of products from small companies or from what you find in a dumpster or even better grow your own foods, start a community/urban garden!Www@FoodAQ@Com
I guess buying (vegan) products from companies that also make animal products is sort of like buying products from companies that test, and I think most vegans don't do that!. Honestly, I never thought about this seriously before!.!.!. The only thing is, it's really hard to find certain products that are from companies that don't use animal products!. One thing about buying from the companies that produce both animal and non-animal products, is that if you buy the non-animal products, it shows them that not only that it's important for them to continue producing vegan stuff and providing those options, but that people are actually interested in buying it!. And that may make those companies produce more of the non-animal products until maybe someday they realize that more people are buying those than the animal products!. (wishful thinking!?)Www@FoodAQ@Com
If you don't buy vegan options you are giving the company the opinion that there isn't a market for these products, so they will stop making them, but if the product sells well they will extend their vegan range, and if at the same time their animal derived products aren't selling to well they will stop producing them, it's this whole supply and demand thing, if you don't buy vegan products when a company makes them they soon wont be there for you to buy anyway!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
not all vegans and veg's do it because they care about animals!. Although if he is vegan, then supporting a company that exploits animals is not very vegan like!.
It's kinda like walking into KFC and ordering mashed potatoes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegan and I try really hard not to eat at places that serve meat!.
I NEVER eat at KFC (Kentucky Fried Cruelty) or McDonald's or Sonic!.
I guess it's his choice but it seems bad to me!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's for him to decide, most vegans(including myself) would probably eat it!. I don't quite understand why you care about why he's eating it, though!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm not 100% sure on what the question means, but if it means what I think it means then!.!.!.
A vegan should not eat any animal products full stop!. Whether it's exploiting an animal or it's not, he shouldn't be using it!.
It's like a vegetarian eating chicken because it's free-range!.
---
I understand the question now, and I think they should eat it if they want!. It may indeed contain some dairy, but if he wants to take the risk let him!. But to be honest, they shouldn't be making the products under the same roof or with the same machines!. They're just endangering other people by doing that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The company wouldn't have to replace any animal products to produce more balsamic vinaigrette so he isn't contributing to exploitation!. Just like if you go into a fast food restaurant and order their meatless salad, they don't have to replace any burgers, so they don't need to order more meat, so they can put off ordering meat for a little bit longer than if you did buy a burger!.
It's impossible to get all your products from purely vegan companies, trust me, I've thought about it!. Almost anything that comes in a package would then be off-limits!. It's not necessary to do that!. A good way to think about this is if you buy a product of theirs that is vegan, you may boost its popularity and then the market will soon be flooded with vegan alternatives!. This has happened recently with all the vegan meat alternatives around!. If no one bought those simply because they were made by a company that also deals with eggs or dairy, we would have no vegan alternatives!. And those vegan alternatives have made it really easy for non-resourceful people to stick with a vegan diet!. I see no ethical dilemma!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
