Calories are calories!. Eat too many and you gain weight no matter what diet you are eating!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The problem is that if you don't eat enough protein and still eat as many calories, you lose muscle mass and replace it with fat!. Plant proteins are only used at about 70-80% efficiency compared to around 100% efficiency for animal proteins!. So, if you have to eat 70 grams of protein when not vegan, you'll have to eat around 100 grams of plant protein to maintain muscle mass!. Muscle contributes to metabolism and uses more calories at rest then fat does!. The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism!. If you eat the same calories, but, low enough protein to lose muscle mass, you'll gain weight!.

As has already been said it is unfortunately just as possible to over indulge or eat the wrong foods as a vegan as it is when following any other sort of diet!. It's all about getting a balance of the various food groups within your diet in healthy proportions!.!.!. Plus of course leading a reasonably active lifestyle with enough exercise etc!. There are a couple of articles that I've come across that might help!.!.!. Veganism isn't a weight loss diet!. What you need to do is eat lower calorie foods and foods with less fat!. Instead of margarine on toast, use jam, use less oil when frying or sauteeing, eat whole grains instead of white bread or white rice!. Instead of nuts, eat beans and lentils, and keep your intake of nut butters down!. Keep your intake of soymilk down to one cup per day and the rest of the day just drink water, no diet soda, no juice, no alcohol (except on the weekend, yah!)!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

well no matter what you eat you are still consuming calories, and if you eat to much food meat or no meat, you are then still bound to pack on the pounds, if you are not getting enough exercise then this could be why!. try adding some more exercise in your daily rutine and try just drinking water for a while and the pounds should shed off!. also if you are eating loads of nuts that are calorie dense as a source of protine then this could be something contributing to your weight gain!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

watch the fats and the calories

just because its healthy food it comes down to input and output

keep a food journal and see what you are actually eating and make sure to get your exercise

Yeah, Its true that dairy and meat don't make up a huge part of our calories!. I'm not even vegan and i eat a lot of carbs because my body is always moving and i need them!. The protein i get through in a day might be a glass of milk, and any protein from bread and other grains!. Veganism isn't for weight loss!. Try eating more fruits and veggies and bumping up your workout routine!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

People that become vegan/vegetarian to lose weight, in my opinion, are selfish!.

If you eat a bunch of vegan cookies every day, you aren't going to lose weight!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to do research, or talk to a doctor!. You probably ate too many carbs!. What you want is a balanced diet!. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, of many different colors!. Eat beans, tofu, and nuts to make sure you get protien!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I did gained weight when I was eating lots of breads & pastas!.
But I return to normal weight after eating less refined carbs & eating more vegetables & whole grains!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Like busybaker said, calories are calories!. Do you eat more than you use to!? You might be getting too many carbs or starches, or both!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
