I am a pesco pollo vegetarian. People say I am a disgrace?!

Question: I am a pesco pollo vegetarian!. People say I am a disgrace!?
I am what they call a Pesco Pollo vegetarian, which is basically a vegetarian that eats both Chicken and Fish, but NO OTHER MEATS!.

Some people are telling me that I shouldn't be proud of that, and I am basically a disgrace to the actual vegetarians who don't eat meat at all!.

Are they right!? Or are these people just being ignorant!?!?

I like the way I eat, because I eat vegetables and I still have SOME kind of meat in my body!. I really don't care what people think of me but I'd like to know your opinions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think so, but people have different reasons for being vegetarian, and if they're vegetarian because of animal rights beliefs, the argument can get very heated!. I'm a vegan (no animal products whatsoever) both for health reasons and because I personally don't want to contribute to the cruel and inhumane conditions that often exist with captive animals!. I am also, however, a pacifist and I don't believe in attacking someone just because their beliefs are different from yours!. As long as you are healthy and happy, who is anyone else to judge!? You're not a disgrace, you're just not a vegetarian!.

Look, vegetarians by definition do not eat dead animals!. Period!. You eat dead animals!. You're not a vegetarian!. You can choose to eat whatever you want, but using some nonsensical, oxymoronic made up label just smacks of attention seeking!. There's no such thing as a vegetarian who eats fish and birds and I can't understand why anyone would want to claim a label that doesn't describe them!. I could tell everyone I was Italian, but since none of my ancestors came from Italy, it just wouldn't be true!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What you eat is your business, but I would not agree that you are a vegetarian!.

The word was invented in the 1800s so people who don't eat animals can describe their philosophy!. Somewhere along the line a bunch of people who eat animals decided they wanted to call themselves "vegetarians" as well!. I'm not sure what is so great about the word that meat eaters think they need it to describe themselves!.

It's just a confusing use of a word!. That's all!. I don't care if you want to eat chicken and fish; I just don't like it when you call yourself "vegetarian" because it contradicts my understanding of the word!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't ever worry about what other people think about your choice of food!. By what I've read, I would consider you a semi-vegetarian!. There is nothing disgraceful about that!. And you ARE a kind of vegetarian!. I became a semi-vegetarian when I was 8 and I read the definition in a magazine and decided I would continue to eat seafood but no other meat!. Then when I was 13 I decided to stop eating seafood and become a full vegetarian!. Since then I've become a vegan!. It seems at times like my entire life is in a gradual process of cutting out more and more food groups!. At one point a few months ago, I started to eat cheese and milk again for about three days!. Then I went back to being vegan!. During all these transitions, it was my choice and no one ever said anything against it!. I remember talking to a friend of mine who told me the "Vegan Police" aren't going to come after me if I want to eat pizza again!.

What I'm really trying to say is that you are a semi-vegetarian!. Don't worry about what other people tell you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well first of all the proper term for your diet is a pollo-pescotarian, since the "vege-" part in vegetarian implies you don't eat meats!.

I mean good for you for omitting some meats from your diet, but why would try to consider yourself a vegetarian but still eat chicken and fish!?
I guess I could see some other vegetarians get pissed off if you're at some PETA convention or something with a bucket of KFC sayin "oh its okay guys!"

but really, its your own choice to eat what you want, you aren't a disgrace, but you aren't a vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you like what you eat, and you like "having meat in your body" why would you refer to yourself as a vegetarian!? It's simply absurd!.

Vegetarians do not eat meat, and if "these people" are just being ignorant, why would you call yourself one of them!?

But no, you are not a disgrace!. In order to be a disgrace to vegetarians, you would first have to BE a vegetarian, and you are not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're not a disgrace, but you shouldn't refer to yourself as any type of vegetarian!.

It's kind of like someone saying they're a vegetarian because they only eat cow and lamb, BUT NO OTHER MEATS!. Chickens and fish are still animals!.

You're an omnivore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

To thine own self be true!.Those people of the highbrow opinions SUCK!. What you eat is NONE of their business!. A disgrace!? They better take a good look in the mirror before they fire off at you!. Adolph Hitler was a vegetarian ,(FACT) is that a good comparison!? Please!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think you can eat fish and chicken and still call yourself a vegetarian, it is not a judgement of you or your choices, but it is a horrific use of language!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't call you a disgrace but i wouldn't consider you a vegetarian either!. The definition of a vegetarian is someone who does not eat the flesh of animals so I'm sorry, but that puts you out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There is no such thing as a fish and chicken eating vegetarian!. That's a complete oxymoron!. If you eat any flesh, you are not a vegetarian!. You are an omnivore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you are happy, then you are doing the right thing!. Sure, you are not a very good vegetarian!. That doesn't make you a bad person!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I really don't care about what you or anyone else eats, it's your choice, but the reality is, you're not vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

your not a disgrace but your a phoney vegetarian!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you like the way you eat, fine!.

But you're not a vegetarian of any kind - simply because it's a word with a dictionary definition that doesn't include the eating of fish or chicken!. In the same way, I couldn't call myself a teetotaler because I only drink vodka and wine, no other booze - because teetotaler is a word with a dictionary definition that doesn't include the drinking of vodka and wine!. No such thing as a vodka vino teetotaler!.

Nobody should call you disgrace and you're right not to care about the opinion of anyone who does, but people who eat fish and other meat but call themselves vegetarian make life difficult for genuine vegetarians!. In restaurants, at catered functions or wherever food is provided, caterers have come across 'vegetarians' who eat fish or chicken, so they assume we all do and provide fish as their vegetarian option!.

Apart from on YA, just about the only other time I claim the title of vegan is when I eat out or eat at others' homes - it's a useful way of letting people know what I do and don't eat!. In what way would the title 'pesco pollo vegetarian' be similarly useful!? Waiters and caterers would have no idea what you were talking about!.

Why have a label at all!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Eat what you want, no one should ever judge you for your eating choices!.

I can see where most vegetarians are coming from however!. The reason you have, whatever it may be, may seem a bit contradictory!. You saying you don't want to protect the rights of chickens or fish may conflict with their attitude towards vegetarianism!. I'm not saying that may be your opinion, but it's certainly the vibe that most vegetarians would get!. Ignore them anyway, just say it's your choice to do what you want with your own food!.

And me!?
I ate fish when I was on a boat in the maldives!.!.!. That's all the food they had god dammit! I have no problem with some vegetarians choosing to eat fish as fishing is a major commodity that needs to be balanced after all!. I sat through a Marine Biology lecture for work experience and saw that fishing levels need to be constantly maintained at a set optimum to avoid over population or endangerement!. You can't really farm fish, afterall! I just don't eat fish because I can't eat anything that has eyes!.!.!. My rule of thumb!

As for chicken, I've got 5 chickens in my backyard!. They're my friends, I could never eat em! That's just me though!.

Good luck with your cause, at least your making an effort to cancel out some meat in your life!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would definitely call yourself a vegetarian!. Don't listen to what those people have to say i am a vegetarian just like you except i wont eat chicken!. i still call myself a vegetarian!. my reasons are for animals!. i couldn't just cut off all of my protein that would've definitely been drastically unhealthy so i sicked with fish!. what other people this doesn't matter i am the only one in my WHOLE family(a huge family)that is a vegetarian and i am proud of it!. i don't care who trys to bribe me to eat meat!. and it doesn't bother me that much anymore!. i just ignore it and think what i want to think!. so don't let anyone tell you your not a vegetarian!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think its fine as long as you eat free range chicken and don't eat battery chicken!. They have some of the worst welfare standards and are just plain wrong and unethical!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
