Do you (as a vegan) eat refined sugar?!
As of a few years ago, only 1/4 of cane sugar refiners used bone char as more are switching to activated charcoal instead!. Beet sugar does not use bone char in refining at all!. None of the bone char gets into the sugar!. So with these small odds that the sugar would be refined with bone char, do you still avoid anything with refined sugar in it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know it may sound hypocritical, but with the small odds, it doesn't bother my conscience!. I really don't add sugar to many things but i do eat things that may have it in!. And when i make my own stuff, i usually use regular sugar!. So, yes, as a vegan, i do eat refined sugar!. Especially if my only alternative is something made with artificial sweeteners!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Some tap water is filtered through bone char!. The processing of some rubber and steel involves the use of animal fat!. I could go on and on!.!.!. It's basically impossible to avoid all animal products in the world today!. If we try to avoid every little animal product, it will make veganism seem way too hard, and people will be much less likely to become vegan!. It's not about personal purity, it's about minimizing animal suffering!. If you avoid 99% of animal products and show others that being a vegan isn't so hard, and they decide to be vegan, that prevents more suffering than avoiding 99!.9999% of animal products and not influencing anybody to be vegan!. The only reason bone char is still used by some companies is because it's the cheapest method for them!. If enough people become vegan, then a lot less animals will be killed, so the bone char will be more expensive than its alternatives!. In other words, when the major animal products disappear, the more minor byproducts will disappear with them!. The best way to reduce animal suffering is to avoid the obvious animal products, i!.e!. meat, dairy, and eggs!. So to answer your question, yes, as a vegan I do eat refined sugar!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes!. I do avoid refined sugar!. I prefer Stevia because it is actually fibrous!. I'm also fond of agave nectar for desserts and crystallized ginger for some things like herbal tea!.
The information you gave is useful, but I'll still avoid refined sugar out of habit!.
* One other thing!. There's enough sugar in three pieces of fruit a day to make me want to avoid even an excess of unrefined sugar!. For example, a lot of pre-packaged vegan items like cereal, cliff, and lunar bars contain stuff like brown rice syrup and oat syrup solids!. If a person doesn't watch it too much unrefined sugar can pile up on a vegan and begin to affect their health!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I use sucanat or turbinado for baking or whatever else, and some liquid sweeteners, like brown rice syrup, et cetera!. The only white sugar I eat is in otherwise vegan candies or packaged baked goods, and that doesn't amount to much!. I stay away from packaged/processed foods as much as possible anyway!.
The point in being vegan is to cause as little suffering as possible, not to be completely "pure"!. It's pretty impossible to be 100% vegan in the modern western world!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I use evaporated cane juice for cooking and baking since it's not bone char filtered!. And I mostly try to avoid prepared foods with refined sugar, partly because of the non-vegan-ness of them but mostly because I don't want to be eating excessive amounts of refined sugar for health reasons!. It just doesn't contribute anything positive to my diet!. I'd rather look for products with less refined natural sweeteners!. But I don't always take a hard line on it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I guess!. It really is too much of a hassle to avoid!. I mean I don't go around eating all the refined sugar at my finger tips nor do I often use it but when it comes to candies and cakes and such I figure why not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Whole Foods sells Vegan Cane Sugar!. I buy it!. I use it!. And yes, I use other sweeteners like Maple Syrup, Agave, Barley Malt, and Honey and try to avoid refined sugar and products containing it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
