What are some veg sources of protein that are easily digestible/not high in fiber?!


Question: What are some veg sources of protein that are easily digestible/not high in fiber!?
My vegetarian son (age 10) is battling a digestive/GI tract problem, the doctors have not been able to pinpoint the source and are in the process of running further tests and labs!. In the meantime, all he has been able to keep down are liquids and carbs - anything high in proteins, fibers, and fats have caused cramping and vomiting!.

He's starting to have reactions to the amount of starches he's consuming though, and I really need to even it out with proteins!. He can't have anything high in fiber or fats, and it needs to be something soft!. I'm putting silken tofu in his smoothies, but that's the only thing I've been able to come up with!. Otherwise, the only solids he can keep down are things like applesauce, pasta (mostly mac and cheese), and potatoes!.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!. Because they don't know the cause, his doctors haven't been able to give many suggestions!. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do everything I can to help him and support him!. I just don't even know where to look, research-wise!.

Ouch!. I am so sorry! I am sure your physician has been checking out the possibility of celiac disease!. While I am not a physician, I am a Certified Nutrition Consultant, and frankly, I would immediately cut out wheat (mac and cheese!? I would ditch the wheat immediately) and all products containing gluten!. There are grains that are gluten free such as Quinoa and Rice -- and there are pastas made of both grains!. Protein Shakes can be helpful!. Tofu is certainly alright too!. Avocado Banana and Tofu are great blended together!. I certainly send you my support and my prayers for a swift resolution to your son's distress!. Good luck!.

I am currently having a digestive tract problem as well but I have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome!. I have problems keeping down proteins and have found that carbs work the best!. In the meantime, I have tried protein shakes, peanut butter and protein bars!. I am still finding things to eat and many times google IBS for suggestions!. I know your son has not been diagnosed with this but the websites will give you suggestions of what will help eliminate his upset problem!.

Have you considered juicing!? It takes a good amount of the soluble fiber out of the vegetables and makes the nutrients immediately available!. also I would add ginger to any combination of these veggie drinks it is known for helping the digestive system and it is a powerful anti nausea!. Keep searching around, look for an Indian doctor or dietician, one from India not a Hopi or whatnot!.!.!. the reason I say this is that they may be able to make better reccomendations because I have met a great deal of people from India and Asia who are vegetarian!.!.!. sounds lilke he is not tolerating these things because of a lack of exposure!.!.!. maybe someone can better help you, who has a culture that includes these practices, (as contrasted with American culture which is a terrible blend of too many non-cohesive lifestyles, the product of multi-national integration)!.!.!. I myself, like to eat fish, it provides the important Omega proteins that I cannot produce from beans!.!.!.

I would ask him if he would like to try some fish!.!.!.!?


Furthermore, I would ignore the radical opinions of people who aren't your doctor, because your doctor is actually there checking him out!.!.!. I have had intermittent problems with vomiting, acid reflux, IBS, and cramping!.!.!. I have fixed these problems by eating a balanced diet with adequete water, raw veggies and fruits, whole grains, moderate protein intake, and cultured diary!.!.!. I am no expert but believe that we can fix much with very little!.!.!. your doctor is probably trying to look up a similar case where the person affected had a similar diet as your son, seeing as to how this involves the GI tract!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
