Answers:
I am not a gum-chewer, and I am a vegan, so I don't have a gum around to consult!. I do understand that, originally, at least, gum was made from rubber!.
The best suggestion I can give to you is that you go to a health food supermarket and see if they sell gum!. If they have it (which I kind of doubt), you can then ask them if it is vegetarian!. If the market is worth its salt, the employees will be able to answer your question!.

Next, you might want to ask yourself if you really want to chew gum!. Chewing gum can actually promote weight gain -- no matter what else is in the gum, it either had sugar or xylitol (or another sugar substitute), and chewing it will stimulate saliva, which sends a message to the pancreas that food is coming and insulin should be released -- this could set you up for adult-onset diabetes!.

from the Vegetarian Resource Group:
Most chewing gums innocuously list "gum base" as one of their ingredients, masking the fact that petroleum, lanolin, glycerin, polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate, petroleum wax, stearic acid, and latex (a possible allergen) may be among the components!.
Because of standards of identity for items such as gum base and flavoring, manufacturers are not required to list everything in their product!.
According to Dertoline, a French chemical manufacturer, their adhesive "dercolytes" are used as a label and tape adhesive, as well as a chewing gum base!.
Many brands also list glycerin and glycerol as ingredients on the label!.
Both of them can be animal derived!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes! I'm a vegan and chewing gum right now!.

You have to go to organic specialty stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joes, and you'll find vegan gum!. The brand I'm chewing right now is from Whole Foods and the brand is called "Glee Gum"!. The gum base is made from rainforest chicle, while most other gums use some weird animal based substance as the gum base!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It depends what type of gum it is!. :)
You should check the labels!.
I live in Britain & the leading gum brands are Extra & Trident!.
Extra says suitable for vegetarians on the back!.
Trident has gelatine in! Www@FoodAQ@Com
