I was 11 when I became a vegetarian in an omni household!. My parents were great!. Their biggest concern was for my health, so they took me to the library and helped me research vegetarian nutrition!.

Becoming vegetarian or vegan is a big step, and one that I believe should be taken slowly!. Do lots of research and learn how to make healthy food choices!. There are lots of great online resources for teens, like http://kidshealth!.org/teen/food_fitness/!.!.!.

Keep in mind that at 13 your body is still developing, so you need lots of vitamins and nutrients, including healthy fats (seeds, nuts, avocados) and carbohydrates (whole grains)!.

If you prove to your parents that you are serious and responsible about this, they'll probably come around!. You may need to cook your own meals for a while - but don't be pissy or preachy about it!. Just be healthy and happy, and don't leave a mess in the kitchen (parents hate that!)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It took a lot of convincing before my parents would let me become a vegetarian also!. Tell them your reasons, and it is not that hard to get all the protein, etc!. that you need!. You don't even have to eat fish either, because there are other things(like peanut butter, etc!.) that have protein!. This is usually the biggest argument people have against vegetarians!. You're old enough that you should be able to make these decisions!.
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Umm, no offense, but who cares what your parents think!? They can't physically FORCE you to eat meat, that's against the law!.
I became a vegetarian at 15 and my dad was against it, but what could he do to stop me!? Nothing!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i guess im lucky in this way cos my parents are both vegan!.

but like someone else has already said they can't physically make you eat meat!. plus humans aren'y even meant to eat meat, as our bodys and digestive system are the exect same as a herbivores,

you wont have to eat fish to get your protein, one you dont need to cos fruit and vegetables have more than enough in them, and two a fish is still an animal, you'd be hypocriting yourself if you eat fish

i can go on and on about reasons not to eat meat , if you want any more info write it on your question and i'll email you

Not saying it's you, but many teenagers go thru this stage, only to find out what a pain in the butt being a veg is and quickly give up!. My daughter did!. You could start simply by not eating the meat on your plate!. Or even preparing your own meals!. The problem is that you'd have to be very careful to get the calcium/vitamin/protein benefits of eating meat, you're growing fast and depriving yourself of any of these is dangerous!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Does your LOVE for animals extend to all animals like insects, rodents, rabbits, snakes, lizards, birds, and frogs!? WAY more of these animals are killed or maimed in the production of vegetables and grain crops than animals killed for meat production!. Is it that they are killed or that they are kept and killed cruelly that you don't like!? I understand you wanting to go vegetarian because of the often disgusting and cruel treatment of our meat animals, but you should strive to become informed about the subject from other sources than peta!. Are fish less worthy because they don't have fur and cute blinking eyes!? They feel pain, panic, stress, etc!. when they are caught whether it's in the wild or farm raised!. I am an animal lover, too, but I won't give up eating meat!. I like it and I will eat it as long as I am alive!. I do, however, look for locally raised and locally butchered meat products!. It is most often the case that animals raised at these small operations are treated much better!. If more people did this and demanded better treatment on a national scale, things could possibly change in the larger operations where animals are treated more cruelly!.

Look, make sure you are making an informed decision and make sure you are doing it for the right reasons!. If you like chicken but don't like the way they are treated at major killing operations, find out how to be an advocate for change in their treatment!. Read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Richard Pollen before deciding to go vegetarian!.

tell your mom, that even though she has loved you, cared for you, provided you with food, and shelter, and not asked for much of anything in return that you are going through another one of your phases and want to burden her by making her cook 3 seperate meals for you and cook 3 seperate meals for the rest of the family everyday until this phase of your passes, then tell her to spend more of her money that she earns working all day everyday to provide you with food, shelter, and clothing, and keep you happy, and tell her to spend that money on special vegetarian food because it costs more!. Then tell her you want to be vegetarian cuz you watched a staged peta video on the internet over at your friend sally's house, who coincidentally is also a vegetarian, and she has told you that since she has gone vegetarian she has lost all kinda of weight, and has nice, glowin skin, and all the boys think she's so hot, even though you didn't even know she was veg or had any idea that she looked any different than before she went veg!. Then scream and cry everytime you see roadkill on the road, or everytime you walk by the meat aisle in the grocery store!. And last of all tell your mom that no matter how hard she tries, she is just not good enough, and that her awful lifestyle of carcass eating is going to condemn her and anyone in your family whom she makes eat meat, to an early, and very painful death!.

that's what i would say!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ok, you can get protein without eating any meat, just eat soy, tofu, seitan, tempeh, beans, lentils, rice and dark veggies!. You'll be fine!. Buy some veg cookbooks, and learn how to cook!.
google 'vegetarian healthy', make a long essay on why vegetarianism's healthy, print it off and show it to your parents!.
don't be whiny about not getting to eat pepperoni pizza if your parents order one once you go veg!. be mature and just get yourself a bowl of cereal!.
also, you want your parents to think you're mature enough to become veg!. mature people don't type like cuz, plz, th and use like as random interjections!. try typing normal!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
