Turkey substitute for a vegan?!
my parents are very nicely allowing me to make my own dish for thanksgiving!.!.!. we're setting the food up like a buffet because a lot of friends are coming!
so while we also have turkey, potatoes, et cetera, i can make something for myself and anyone else who wants it to take place of the turkey!.
i was thinking a tofu stir-fry!? or anything else substantial that can be served buffet-style!.!.!. ideas or recipes!?
thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

A nut or bean loaf works good on a buffet-style setting!. I'm making a wheat gluten roast for mine!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
I think Tofurky is disgusting, and most meat-eaters at a buffet wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole!.
My approach to vegan dining is not to "veganize" traditional animal-based foods, but to cook vegetable-based foods that make sense for the occasion!. For fall and winter holidays, root vegetables and beans/pulses are where it's at!. Try a lentil/nut loaf, or a root-vegetable pot pie!. Use miso gravy for both!. There are some great recipes at http://www!.fatfree!.com/cgi-bin/recipes!.c!.!.!.
These foods are hearty, healthy, and fit in nicely on a traditional winter holiday table!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Unfortunately, I haven't found one! I have tried both tofurkey and the homemade "tofu turkey" recipe that is just a bunch of herbs that you would normally use in the stuffing for turkey but I think both taste just gross!. Quorn is excellent and I heard they have turkey!. I would try that if anything at all!. If you can find it, I say absolutely try it you wouldn't even know it isn't meat!. We absolutely love their chicken products!. You may be able to order it online from retailers or you can put your zipcode in here to see where to buy it, it looks really good:
