Vegan milk drinking question?!
would cow milk be considered vegan if the cow was living free range out in the open on a natural diet, not raised for meat, and it had extra milk after feeding its young!? for example when a mother is nursing one child, after feeding the child there is still more milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
No, it is not vegan, it is still exploiting animals because being a dairy cow puts a lot of stress on a cow's body!.
Since lactation is actually governed by a positive feedback process, the more you stimulate a cow's nipples and the more milk you excrete, the more she'll produce, since her body will assume that's how much her calf needed!. If you try to trick nature by keeping the dairy for yourself, the cow's internal organs wouldn't know any better, her endocrine system would produce more hormones and cause her to lactate more to meet demand!. It's an endless cycle, because the more you stimulate her the more she will make!.
But if you let her calf take what it can and let nature do what it's done for millions of years for millions of mammals, cows and humans and every other creature out there, her body will adjust her supply!. She might have full, achy udders for a few days but then she'll make less milk until her calf grows and needs more!.
The idea that she'll just have extra milk period is ridiculous and ignores basic biological responses!. This isn't just how cows are, by the way, human females have to deal with the same regulatory process during lactation!. I breastfed my daughter until she was 14 months old, and sometimes things got a bit full and painful but it's better than being milked because then the body would just produce even MORE milk to compensate!.
also, cows are not machines, if a cow isn't having young back to back she usually has her milk come in and then dry up like a human female would!. Cows wean their young for a reason, it's time for the calf to move on to solids and the mother can take a break!.
Cows, like other mammals that breastfeed, require obscene amounts of energy to produce dairy!. Animals often lose weight and require more food!. Their bones might weaken to provide nutrients for their young!. The more milk you demand from the cow, the more stress her body will endure!. It might seem harmless, but realize that this is the cycle that usually leads to exploitation and abuse!. Since there is a lot of potential milk to be made, cows are milked dry and more and more milk is made, and to even exceed the capabilities of nature, most dairy farmers give their cows additional hormones, through injection, to force their bodies to make even more milk!.
Their bodies are wrecked because they're making way more milk than they were naturally meant to, and most cows are worthless and sent to slaughter by the time they're 5 years old, while a happy, unexploited cow can live 20 or more!.

Well, no, it would only be considered as cruelty-free as possible!. The term "vegan" refers to a diet consisting of all plant foods including fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains!. Milk comes from an animal, whether it be a cow, goat, sheep, or any other animal whose milk is sold!.
Since it comes from an animal, it is not technically vegan!. You should read up up on why milk is bad aside from the issue that it comes from an animal!. I contains unnatural amounts of cholesterol, indigestible animal proteins, and, it is completely unnatural to drink milk!. Do you find it strange that people are the only animals in the world to be drinking the milk of another species!? also, did you know that cows couldn't survive without people!? Without people raising them on a farm, they couldn't survive in the wild!. also, did you know that all animals including humans can't produce lactase, needed to digest lactose, in milk, after they finish breastfeeding!? You can read all about this in vegan books such as Raw Food Real World by Sarma Melngailis and Matthew Kenney!. There are two whole pages that talk about this issue!. No, vegans don't consume animal products period!. No one is raising cows for dairy and then retiring them when they stop producing!. Slaughter is the inevitable result!. If someone personally feels comfortable about the conditions a cow is kept in, then they may make the choice to drink the milk!. But they wouldn't be vegan if they did and I don't know why they'd want to claim a label that didn't describe their personal philosophy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's always amazing how the ranters turn a simple yes or no question into a soapbox for their morals!. Whether or not milk is vegan has nothing to do with whether or not the cow was exploited!. Vegans do not consume or use anything that is made from animals or animal byproducts for whatever their own reasoning is!. The milk would be considered cruelty-free, but would still not be vegan!. The same goes for any dairy products!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
No!. The definition of vegan has nothing to do with the treatment of the animal!. Vegans do not consume animal products!. Period!.
The situation you describe would not negate the fact that cows must be impregnated to give milk, and that male offspring are sold for veal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
