Maintaining a vegetarian lifestyle in college?!
I started my first year of college a few months ago, I eat 2 of my 3 meals in the dining halls and even though they offer "vegetarian" dishes, I've found that they're really just vegetables and sometimes pasta/rice dishes!. I have been an ethical vegetarian for almost two years now and I really do not want to have to start eating meat (if I did, I would limit it to chicken a couple times a week) but I know that I cannot be getting enough protein with the meals they're serving me and I don't have the time or money to make all of my meals myself in my dormroom!. Any words of wisdom!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a college student who is also a vegetarian!. My first 2 years I mostly ate salads w/ chic peas!. My school also had " vegetarian things" like your like " vegetarian corn" ha!. Make requests into your school for more vegetarian things!. Look for yogurt, granola, hummus PBJ, pasta, tofu who grains etc!. let me know if you need any helpWww@FoodAQ@Com
Well there are walamrts everywhere and they have a sections for vegans, They have items such as tofu, veggies dogs, veggie sausages, noodles ect, there are lots of items you can find at walmart that are easy made and ready in minutes such as, minute rice, you can add you own veggies and spices!. Yogurt is awesome, and soymilk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Keep whole wheat bread and peanut butter in your room!. If you are a vegan then make sure you eat beans and tofu whenever you get a chance!.
And find out who is in charge of the dining halls (usually office of Student Affairs) and ask to speak to whoever is in charge of the dining halls!. They want to know your concerns and I feel they will be responsive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I can relate-when I was in college oour veg meals were the leftover (I believe) pasta or rice, with the night before veggies, and cheese melted on top of it!. I supplemented my diet by eating and having fruit yogurt (strawberry, blueberry, etc) in my dorm fridge, cereal bars, nuts and veggie beans(Bush's)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's possible to do it!. I was a vegetarian for 3 out of the 4 years!. Most college dining rooms will offer a vegetarian option if you put it in writing!. Alternatively, you can cook in your room - I had a hot plate and a microwave and did most of my own cooking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I would Stick with the vegetarian dishes for now!. But when it is time you are going to have to eat some meat, not allot but some!. Just have some chicken or even some fish, and just as long as you have the veggies and fruit you will be healthy!.
Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

nuts, leafy greens, and those stir fry dishes they have I guess!. Beans are always good, but yoiu might have to shop for nuts like cashews or pistatios I know they're expensive but great protein sources!. also ask for more vegggie dishes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Maybe keep some cans of lentils or something for snacking if you are worrying about protein!. Inexpensive and eases your mind!. Maybe just try to think of some things like that!.!.!. May take a little more effort but it shouldn't be expensive by any means!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
