How can I keep lettuce fresh ?!

Question: How can I keep lettuce fresh !?
It seems like my lettuce starts turning brown in a day no matter what I do!. I have tried ziploc bags with all of the air squeezed out, Tupperware containers, etc!.
I don't cut it because I heard that makes it "rust" so I rip it!.
Is there any way to keep it fresh so that I don't have to go to the store constantly!? Www@FoodAQ@Com
