Are vegetarians a persucuted minority?!

Question: Are vegetarians a persucuted minority!?
I have been reading the Vegetarians section of Yahoo Answers, in the hope of finding support and helping ease my transition to Vegetarianism!. Yet all I seem to see in people giving Vegetarians a hard time for their choice!. What gives!? Is Vegetarianism still seen as some form of Satanism!. I thought we as a people had gotten past that or are all the people on Yahoo Answers dickheads!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many people on yahoo answers are indeed jerks!. Not all are, however, and don't let those who are detract you from your desire to eat better for your health and for the animals!. I live and work in a rural community and am constantly surrounded by hunters, fishers, farmers, and breeders!. They know I am a vegetarian and mostly don't bother me, however there are a few who are very vocal and I can only guess that they feel threatened somehow (my guess is it's their guilty conscience!.!.!.)

You are the minority but persecuted!?!? Definitely not!. You can make a choice to be a vegetarian or not!. If you do, you can choose what to eat!. You have the same freedom as everybody else!. There are no laws that target vegetarians!. You even have your own Yahoo Answers category!. Where is the persecution!?

To single out yourself and other vegetarians as some sort of ethnic/sexual/cultural/religious minority suffering from some sort of imagined persecution is being too self absorbed and ridiculous!. Everybody gets a hard time about something or other!. Live with it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Several years ago, I was eating at Subway with a group of people!. A few of the guys were giving this girl a hard time because she ordered the Veggie Delight sub!. It was all good-natured, though!.

I think some people have the idea that vegetarian men aren't "manly!." That might count as a form of persecution!. Though, to consider both sides of the coin, sometimes vegetarians/vegans can be a little militant and self-righteous about their dietary choices!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are more jerkfaces online than there are in real life!. Most of the people who say stupid, hateful things on internet forums are far too cowardly to actually say them to anyone in real life!. Y!A seems to be particularly infested with them!.

I live in Houston, Texas, a bastion of meatheads if there ever was one, and I have had virtually no problems with people being openly rude or negative in the 4 years I've been veg!. Mainly I get either polite curiosity or open admiration because people seem to think I'm doing something noble but really difficult!. And most people I've encountered are starting to figure out that it really is healthier!. Even my lawn guy tells me I'm going to live forever, and my vegetarian diet must be why I look so young!.

Still, it is telling that there are so many people willing to persecute vegetarians online even if they wouldn't openly do it in person!. Kinda makes me wonder how many of the people who are being polite to my face are secretly thinking I'm some kind of crazy freak who's going to keel over dead of malnutrition any moment but aren't brave enough to be honest!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

People are generally less polite on the internet than in real life!. People won't be as rude to you to your face!. I find that being a vegan, most people are cool with it, but there are a few people every now and then who try to mess with me!. But it's definitely nothing like what you see here on Yahoo Answers!. Just don't be "preachy", because if you are, people will get annoyed and give you a hard time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Every minority group is persecuted!. This is not limited to racial groups, religious groups, political groups, etc!. If you are a minority at all, you WILL be and might expect persecution!.
There is nothing wrong with having beliefs, but not when one tries to force them on others!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think it's easier to be a vegetarian today than at any other time!. There's just so much awareness of it out there in the general public, I think most people accept it without thinking twice!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I completely agree, I mean, this section is not here for people to debate and get all high and mighty!.!.
This section is under food and drink for gods sake!.!.

I've never been persecuted in real life!. The problem on this forum is to many people feed the trolls!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
