Hi again Minx,
Firstly, let us lay the spinach myth to rest!.
This happened due to a typing error in the laboratory report from 1932!. The iron content in spinach is not 2,0 mg but 0,2 mg, i!.e!. almost none at all!
This, said, all green leaves contain iron!. Broccoli is a very good source but the very, very best are the sea weeds!. Please don't confuse these with fresh water algae - these are almost unusable to the human body and can be long term damaging - it is the sea water algae sold variously as nori, kelp, arame, hiziki, wakame and kombu which are jam packed with essential minerals!.
Iron deficiency is usually caused by coffee consumption!. Coffee, you see, destroys vitamin C!. Your body needs vitamin C as a catalyst in order to absorb iron!. So, if you're iron deficient, try eating fresh raw fruit and veg!. for one meal each day to get your vitamin C levels up!.
Blessed be!.

Spinach
========
is known as a rich source of iron!. According to the USDA, a 180 gram serving of boiled spinach contains 6!.43 mg of iron, whereas one 6 oz!. (170 gram) ground hamburger patty contains at most 4!.42 mg!. Thus spinach does contain a relatively high level of iron, compared to other vegetable and meat sources!.

Iron is easy to get from plant-based sources! Only about one fifth of the iron in a standard (omnivore) diet comes from meat anyway!.

The richest plant sources are dark green vegetables, soy products (i!.e!. tofu) and legumes, whole grains, dried fruits, nuts and seeds!.
Cooking with cast-iron pots also contributes to dietary intake!. Adding fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C to your meals (such as citrus, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, kale or tomatoes) enhances iron absorption!.
Foods that decrease absorption include: tea, coffee, milk products (obviously not a problem for vegans), spinach, rhubarb, Swiss chard and chocolate!. It is fine to consume any of these products, just try to avoid doing so close to meals high in iron!.
And yes, that list is right: spinach actually DECREASES iron absorbtion!.

Spinach is great!. 125 grams provides you with 2 mg!. of iron!. Be sure to eat it with a source of vitamin C, since plant iron isn't as easy to absorb as animal iron!.
Chickpeas are also good, giving you 2 mg!. per 95 grams of boiled beans!.
Dried apricots and whole wheat bread also give you a lot!.
I think you're a guy who is done with puberty!. You need to aim for about 10 mg a day!.
A tablet isn't a bad idea!. Multivitamins are great for anyone who isn't sure they're getting whatever they need!. You obviously don't *need* to take one, but it's not a bad idea (this goes for vegans, veggies, and non-veggies) given our current lifestyle!.

Funny you ask this question, just because we don't eat meat doesn't mean we are low in iron!.
My vegan friends have higher iron levels than my meat friends!.
Iron is in the ground so if you eat plants which grow out of the ground, you would think have iron!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
