A question about vegetarianism?!
I had friends who were vegetarians and I didn't understand this concept:
They ate vegetable burgers instead of beef burgers (obviously because they are vegetarian)!. But why do they feel the need to eat what is essentially a "burger" when they believe that killing animals is inhumane!? also why do some vegetarians still eat things like cheese, and eggs or chicken for that matter, when they don't believe in the killing of animals!? This is just out of curiosity!.
I want concrete answers that give legitimate reasons why some vegetarians will and can eat eggs/chicken/cheese, but at the same time don't eat "red meat" and think its cruel to kill animals!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Veggie burgers are really good! Try one and you'll see what I mean!. They don't really taste like meat and to me they aren't imitating meat, they just taste good, and I like all the other parts of the burger with it, the onions, lettuce, tomato, mustard, etc!. I have no appetite for burgers at all but enjoy veggie burgers as something completely different!.
The vegetarians who eat eggs and milk, often they are vegetarian for reasons besides just animal cruelty, such as health, religion, taste!. And when they are vegetarian for that reason, I'm sure they see themselves as doing "less" than omnivores to contribute to animals suffering!. Their standards and in the middle, between veganism and being omnivore!. Or they are working up to being a vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

"But why do they feel the need to eat what is essentially a "burger" when they believe that killing animals is inhumane!?"
Because it doesn't have meat in it!. Vegetarians don't have as much to chose from as meat eaters do!. So if they eat a veggie burger it because it's good, and they don't feel guilty about eating someone Else's flesh!.
Who cares what it essentially is, if it's not meat they are entitled to eat it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians do not eat chicken!. They eat no animals period!. Vegans eat no animals nor dairy products!.
vegetarians also do NOt wear animal products like leather etc!.
Some people are vegetarians because they cannot digest meat or whatever!.
Most vegetarians are in it so not support the cruel abusive industries that slaughter these defenseless creatures!. they are the ones who are true to the meaning and do not eat such things!. I am a vegetarian and I do not eat eggs, fish, chicken, meat or even drink cow milk!. I drink soy!. but i do have pizza now and then but soon I will give that up and be completely vegan!. I am against all abuse that people bring on to animals including animal testing!. It is all about ones own belief and if they are true to it they will sacrifice their taste buds for what they truly know is rightWww@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians don't eat chicken!. Anyone who says they're a veg and eats chicken is deluding themselves because they want to feel unique!.
I don't think veggie burgers are an issue at all!. It's still made from vegetables, whether it's patty shaped or not - it's just a name!. Would it make you feel better if it were called a veggie croquette on a bun!?
As for cheese and eggs, vegetarians just want to avoid actively promoting the death of animals, and often find the idea of eating flesh abhorrent; they don't mind eating animal byproducts that don't result in the death of an animal!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think they eat "burgers" to symbolize the killing of an animal!. I think they eat them because "burgers" are a part of American culture and if they've eaten real burgers before becoming a Vegetarian, they can still get the texture/feeling of eating a burger with the contentment of not consuming an animal!.
Many Vegetarians eat cheese and eggs because an animal does not need to be killed to produce them!.
I haven't heard of Vegetarians eating chicken, but some eat fish!. There seems to be a wide range of Vegetarians depending on their beliefs:
Pescatarian
Flexitarian/Semi-vegetarian
Lacto-ovo- vegetarian
Lacto-vegetarian
Ovo-vegetarian
Vegan
Raw vegan/Raw food diet
MacrobioticWww@FoodAQ@Com

First of all, your friends who ate chicken were not vegetarian!. Vegetarians do not eat animal flesh, period!. Chickens (and fish!.!.!.a lot of people are under the impression that vegetarians can eat fish too!.) are animals!. You can be vegetarian and still eat eggs & dairy!. Vegans do not eat eggs, dairy, or anything else derived from an animal!.
Most veg'ans aren't raised veg'an, so they grow up eating burgers & other typical things!. They don't feel a NEED to eat a burger, but it is something that is familiar, and easily made vegetarian or vegan at home, and the most common veg'an thing available in restaurants!. It's in the form of a "burger", but it's still veg'an, and isn't considered so weird for some reason!.
Vegetarians eat eggs & dairy because they haven't "seen the light" and become vegan!. :) No offense to vegetarians, because at least they're doing SOMETHING, but really, I think when vegetarians grow up, they become vegan!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
