Does anybody know any good pro vegetarian bible quotes ?!

Question: Does anybody know any good pro vegetarian bible quotes !?
Christianity and Veganism are really important to me, and It really bugs me when people attack me for either belief!. And I get the whole " God made animals for people to eat " spiel, on a constant basis!. Usually what I use to back up vegetarianism biblically is that in eden, animals and humans coexisted peacefully (I imagine that whole lion and sheep sitting next to eachother) kind of thing, and since that was the Lords original creation he was happy with, and because we as christians (if you are christian) are trying to aim for creating this kind of peace and well being on earth as it is in heaven!.
But anyways I just want to have some good scriptures to back me up!. Does anybody have some!?

How about Romans 14: 1-4

1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters!. 2One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables!. 3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him!. 4Who are you to judge someone else's servant!? To his own master he stands or falls!. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand!.

You have to remember that the references given are JUST EXAMPLES of a principle!. That principle is "don't be judgemental of others, even if you think their faith is weaker than yours!."

It could easily be misinterpreted in order to "dispute" like is says in the first verse - and that's not the point!.

Rather the point is that each person should act according to their own conscience in matters like this!. So if YOU really don't like to eat meat, and you think it's damaging to God's creation, then by all means !.!.!. don't eat it! And I would congratulate you for being caring!.

The bible gives a lot of 'examples' which get used as fodder for debate - but the whole point is to live peacefully, be merciful, and be loving!.

So, please understand that I don't give this verse to say that someone's faith is better than another's depending on whether or not they eat meat!. I'm only using it to show that God accepts all of us!. It's probably better to be a vegetarian! I wouldn't want this to get all out of context :) All I'm saying is that God cares about what's in you're heart!. If your vegan because you LOVE animals and because you LOVE God - that's what counts, even more than what you eat or don't eat!.

Hope that made sense :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

There aren't any verses in the Bible that say "go vegan!" but there are many that should help you convince people that Christianity and veganism are not mutually exclusive!. I get that argument all the time too, and I think the problem is the misinterpretation of the word "dominion!." People think it means domination or control, when really it means that we were given the responsibility of them!.!.!.we were entrusted by God to care for them!. That said, I have a few verses that I can pass along to you that may help!.
Here are some that I like to reference:

Genesis 1:29
"Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it!. They will be yours for food!. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food!." And it was so!."

That one is so good it speaks for itself!!

Genesis 9:1-4
"Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth!. The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands!. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you!. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything!.
"But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it!. 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting!. I will demand an accounting from every animal!. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man!."

This is God giving us permission to eat meat, but it certainly doesn't say that we have to! He only gave man permission to eat meat AFTER the flood, when there was no vegetation for Noah and his family to eat!. Permission was given because the people could not survive without it!.!.!.!.that did NOT give us permission to factory farm and abuse the gifts God has provided!

Romans 14:6
"He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord!. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God!."
This verse is saying that it doesn't matter whether you do or do not eat meat, so long as you do it in thanks!.

Romans 14:20-21
"Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food!. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble!. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall!."

I think that one is interesting!.!.!.because by eating meat you are aiding in the cruel actions of others in most cases!.

Here is my favorite:
Matthew 5:7
"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy!."
I think that kind of sums it up, don't you!?

By the way, all of these verses are NIV!.

EDIT: I also wanted to add that you should be careful to know the context of verses that you quote to others!. If the verse itself SOUNDS like it fits, it still may not!.!.!.the surrounding verses will give you an idea of what the verse is intended to mean!. If you start taking things out of context you'll end up sounding like you don't know what you're talking about!.

I'm a Christian and a vegan!.!.!.!.and I don't think two things could go together better :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

There isn't any!. You are right about the Garden of Eden!. It's pretty cool to imagine all of the animals co-existing peacefully!. However God gave extremely specific instructions about eating mean in Leviticus!. He also gave the Israelites meat in the wilderness!. God does not restrict people from eating meat in the Bible!.

That doesn't mean that it is wrong to not eat meat, but you can't say that God doesn't want you to based on scripture!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
