13 year-old vegetarian?!

Question: 13 year-old vegetarian!?
I am 13 and want to be a vegetarian, however I am very afraid to tell my parents about this as my father is a sportsman and all my family loves meat!.

There are lots of things I'm worried about, but mostly I am wondering how I'm going to do this!.!.!. like what am going to bring for school lunches, or when my family makes bacon in the morning!.

Most of all I just don't think my parent are going to take me seriously!. Any help!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Read about it, print information out and sit down and talk to your parents about it!. Get them to schedule you a doctors appointment!. Your doctor can give you more information and help satisfy your parents that you will be healthy!.

I bring peanut butter sandwiches, rice, salad, Boca Burgers, Indian meal kits (Lots of Indian food is vegetarian and vegan), chips, etc!. Just check the ingredients on stuff and see!.

you just have to be willing to commit!. When they make meat products, remind yourself why you want to be a vegetarian, excuse yourself from the room

Talk to your parents, make sure they understand this is what YOU want to do!. This is a life choice, but is not necessary permanent!. You can go back (my younger sister did)!. If you eat right you will be healthy, most vegetarians/vegan feel healthier AFTER switching!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think you should wait until at least 18 or 21 to become a vegetarian because then you will be fully grown!. If not, you won't get the proper nutrition because, as you know, there are many nutrients in meat that are not found in vegetables!. You can become a vegetarian, but I would suggest to start slowly, because if you just all of a sudden become a vegetarian, your body won't handle it too well!. also, if you become a vegetarian --especially since you are still growing even though you would have to take them anyway--you will have to take many vitamins a day which are the ones that you are losing from not eating meat!. If you want to do that, then, as said before, slowly ween off of meat!. But would recommend you wait!.

(I am 14 and I tried too, but it didn't go too well and I didn't want to take a chance of not getting the proper nutrition because, well, to be honest i'm already short enough, lol!. also, my parents weren't taking me seriously either, noone was, so that sucked!. I was a pescetarian for about a month!.

But since I am planning to become a Zoologist, I know I will become one in a couple of years, preferably 21-23 years old, and I will be prepared to take the vitamins, etc!.)

Good Luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your family should accept your choice as it is without any problem!. You wouldn't believe it, but a lot of sportsman/athletes are vegetarians!.

As for resisting temptations like bacon, you're just going to have to deal with it!. Becoming a vegetarian doesn't take the taste out of things you eat!.

For lunch at school, you can eat lots of fruit and vegetables as a substitute or maybe make a garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette!.

Before making your switch into becoming a vegetarian, you should research it more!. There are many types of vegetarianism, like where you can include things like eggs, fish, or dairy products into your diet!.

Hope I helped =D!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ask to see a nutritionist with your parents!. Make sure that you have researched this person so you know that they are familiar with building vegetarian and vegan diets!. This will also help them take you seriously!.

One thing you must emphasize is that you are doing this as a personal choice!. Just because dad is a sportsman and your family loves meat doesn't mean that you'll try to "convert" them!. They're your family and you love them!

"I am wondering how I'm going to do this!.!.!. like what am going to bring for school lunches, or when my family makes bacon in the morning!."
I know that people your age typically don't make their own food, but you're going to have to start!. Ask that your parents start buying more veggies and fruits for the family!. Make your own meals, and don't rely on them to cater to you!. This is unfair for the person who cooks in your house to make a special meal for just you!. You need to take hold of your dietary choices!.

im 13 and i've been a vegetarian for 2 years now!. when i wanted to be a vegetarian my family thought i was joking and stuff because i used to eat the most meat in my family!. They got over it eventually and whenever my mum couldn't be bothered making my own separate dinner i made it myself, so maybe learning to make something easy would be good as well!. Just remember to eat healthy and get all the nutrients you need to make up for not eating meat!.

good luck and hope this helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

hopefully your parents will be supportive of your decision, and not make you feel ashamed, as you shouldn't!.
if they are judgemental people, maybe just bring up the conversation during dinner, or at a time that it feels comfortable, and see how it goes!.
as far as lunches!.!.
peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat toast are usually my lunches (to go) along with maybe an apple, or yogurt, string cheese!.!.
(im a vegetarian, not vegan)
and of course, you will never forget how much you love bacon, or big macs!.!. but depending on why you want to be a vegetarian, it will always be a reminder of your sacrifice!! sometimes, doing good is not supposed to be easy!
way to go!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been a vegetarian since i was 16!. I'm almost 20 now!. My family is full of meat eaters too however when i told them they were all very supportive!. My mom buys me soy milk and is good about making options for me for dinner (like making a small pan of sauce without ground beef in it for spaghetti)!. So tell them, if you tell them seriously they'll have to take you seriously!. You're 13 right!? want to be treated like an adult!? Act like one! Tell them honey, what's the worst that could happen!? also, peta is a little extreme but they are a good place for starting vegetarians on how to start being vegetarian!. It's a good place to find recipes as well as what to look for in the grocery store and what ingredients to look for!.

Good Luck, Peace and Love,

hi :)
here's what i know based on having 2 vegetarians in my family (my sister and my dad)!.

my sister takes pb & j to school!. She wanted to be a vegetarian because she thought meat was gross, but she eats fish for protein, which is really important!.

eat lots of fruits and veggies, for sure!. and after you tell your mom & dad, they may be willing to make imitation bacon (you never know!)!.

i think that you should try it for a week (i know you are hehe) and see how it goes!. If you find that you don't miss meat, then tell your parents, something along the lines of:

mom, dad, i've decided to become a vegetarian!. i'm doing it for (state your reason)!. i've tried it for a week and would like to continue!.

then you talk about how you will make your own dinners or how you plan to help with meal prep to make it easier on them!.

that's what i would do if i were you!.

good luck!

p!.s!. bina says howdy :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

your parents should and will accept your choice to be a vegetarians!.tell them what's the goodness of eating vege and you have decided to do this!.it's your life you gonna lead not them!.

for lunches, you can make a simple vege or egg(if you ok with eggs) sandwiches or you can bought it from the school canteen!.they must be a stall that sells bread and buns!.so i don't think it's gonna be a big problems!.but during dinner if your mum didn't cook vege for you i guess eating out is the best way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i walk outside!.!.i look to the left and right, cows on both sides in pastures that have a predetermined fate!.

i walk inside, over my favorite chair is a deer head

i walk to the freezer, i dig for one of my veggie burgers through frozen deer and cow meat!.

i am 13 also

that my friend, is my life!.

it can be done! i have been a vegetarian since june 11th of this year, i am keeping up with the date because on june 11th next year i am going to celebrate!

i eat school lunches, i just give my meat away or not get any at all, my family eats bacon, sausage, heck, they cant even cook a pot of beans without putting beef fat in it
