Should cows be fed dead cow and other animals?!

Question: Should cows be fed dead cow and other animals!?
Apparently this is what has caused mad cow disease!.

Should it happen, and is it still happening!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
What's still happening is that cows are being fed to other meat animals such as pigs and chickens and then chicken litter is being fed to cows but most anyone who's ever dealt much with chickens knows they spill feed so that spilt feed is being fed back to the cows!.

The one that surprises most people when they first find out is that the calves taken from dairy cows in the big operations (about 95% of the supply) are given a milk replacer which is made from the blood of the slaughtered cows!. Some of those cows without doubt had Mad Cow as there's been several cases found but the US only tests 1 out of 100 cows (and wants to test only 1 out of 10,000)!. The recent HSUS undercover tape was the abuse suffered upon spent dairy cows that were considered downer cows and all the efforts to make them get up and walk to their deaths (and onto school children's plates)!.

Cows are currently with the increased cost of grain being fed cacao shells (from chocolate making), and stale M&Ms and other candies, along with stale potato chips and other junk foods!. It doesn't make it any healthier for us to put it through the cow first!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, they should not, that is what spreads Mad Cow disease!. In 1997, the FDA passed a law to make the direct feeding of dead ruminant bits to other ruminants illegal, but there are loopholes:
"ruminants are still eating ruminants indirectly, thanks to exemptions from FDA rules!. Leftovers from restaurants and institutions can be made into cattle feed--even if they contain beef!. "That's the part about the exemptions that worries me the most!. That is still feeding cows to cows," says Peter Lurie, M!.D!., deputy director of the nonprofit Public Citizen's Health Research Group in Washington, D!.C!., and a member of the FDA's TSE advisory committee!.

It's also possible (here's where it gets a little complicated) that ruminants could ingest infectious prions from ruminants through other species, says Hansen of Consumers Union!. Pigs, chickens, and pet cats commonly eat food made from dead ruminants, including sheep, deer, and elk, all of which have mad-cow-like diseases!. And those pigs, poultry, and cats can be slaughtered, rendered, and fed back to cows!."

I wasn't aware that they were fed this, I grew up on a dairy farm and the only things our cows ate was grass and when they were being milked we had a tap that allowed molasses into a tub and we had it trickling in whilst they were being milked and we never fed them anything else, but they would eat bananas whole as we also had a banana plantation and you couldn't leave a bunch lying around in the paddock or they would eat them the little blighters, we used to hand feed some of them with grass, they get to know you and some of them are very friendly and let you pat them too, but have never heard of them eating meat, but if its happening it should certainly stop! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mad cow disease was brought on through farmers feeding cows protein tablets to help them gain weight (and of course, the protein contained traces of beef and other animals)!. And since cows are strict herbivores, the cows rejected it from the system while making the bacteria in the digestive tract very unhappy!. Farmers learnt from this and if they're still doing it, they must be extremely stupid!.

I don't quite get what you mean when you say "Should it happen" however!. I don't think that food poisoning should ever happen!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nooooo, it should never have happened, I imagine it still is happening somewhere!.!.!.best to eat only locally raised, grass fed beef if you are going to eat it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I imagine that it is what caused mad cow disease!.
Cows shouldn't be fed dead cows for two reasons
1!. Cannibalism *shudders* is considered morally wrong by pretty much everyone
2!. Cows are herbivores!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
