I am such a hypocrite when it comes to animal testing...?!
i was thinking on how much i hated animal testing, and i started thinking!.!.if i got cancer, whether the medication was tested on animals or not would be the last thing on my mind!. i don't know whether to be against animal testing or not!.!.it would be better if they gave the animals a decent life before the cruel things were done to them!.!.!.so i was just wondering what your views are on it!.
what are your views on animal testing!?!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm pretty torn on the subject but I was watching a video (on Yahoo no less) a couple days ago about a guy who had a severance package of $300,000 but heard about some chimps being retired from testing (after over 20 years IIRC) and he put the money into making them a nice place to go and now relies on donations to operate the place!. One lady chimp had all her children taken from her and now she walks around with a couple troll dolls everywhere she goes caring for them tenderly!.
So there are several chimpanzee refuges that could no doubt use donations to keep operating and giving these animals a nice and safe place!. That might be one way to help deal with grief and guilt over what happens!.
Don't know if this will work but here's the video link:

I do think a good plant-based diet is helpful to staying healthy and even for those who end up sick anyway, well!.!.!. how much worse (and sooner) would it have been if the diet hadn't been so healthy!?
EDIT TO ADD: Some cancers are caused apparently by viruses as in the tumors that are wiping out the Tasmanian Devils currently for which a vaccine is being looked for much like the vaccine for HPV that thwarts some cervical cancers:

I have a similar view!.
I oppose animal testing strongly for anything from cosmetic to medicinal purposes!. However, if I was dying, I would take what ever pills/drips necessary to live!. I would know that those medicines were tested on animals, and I would feel terrible about that, but I unfortunately I have no choice!.
Of course I could choose to die, but that defeats the purpose of my veganism: to be part of a political movement striving to end animal exploitation!. I can't work for the animals if I am dead, it's as simple as that!.
As I am currently healthy, I don't take "western" medicine such as painkillers etc and I actively promote alternatives to animal testing!.
Unfortunately our society has not yet reached a point where those alternatives are widely in use, and so, if I fall sick I currently have no "cruelty-free" choice as I have in my diet/clothing/other aspects of my lifestyle!.
So in answer to your question: In a life/death situation, would also take those medicines, but I don't think that makes me or you a hypocrite!. Animal exploitation is so fundamentally entrenched in our society it is impossible to avoid altogether, all we can do is try our best!.

Animal testing is what it is: testing things on creatures that aren't us so we can use it on us!. I think that testing should be done on existing patients with their consent (if I was in a coma, I would love for them to test medicines for getting people out of comas on me) or on people who do have a debt to pay to society (convicted criminals who are eating up our tax dollars and still allowed to live while they have killed others)!.
This way, we could be testing medications FOR people ON people!. It just makes the most sense and saves money from having to buy, feed, and house testing animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The debate is ongoing!.
many say that what applies to animals doesn't apply to us!.
So if something made an animal sick it wouldn't mean that it would make use sick!.
Talking about cancer, look up the work of Dr!.Kanzius!.
he started his experiments using a hot dog( not an animal)!.
and it worked!.
I say, use imprisoned murderers and rapists and leave the animals alone!.
Christine, one of my friends was the healthiest eater ever!.
Vegan!. He died at 29 from lukemia( is that not blood cancer)!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Anyone who thinks "that is their purpose" either has no idea what goes on with animal testing or is a gross person!. They don't just rub something on a bunny!.!.!. it's sick what they do!. I've cried to videos of animal testing!.!.!. so yes, I am very much against it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I think animal testing is necessary sometimes to develop new drugs and products to benefit humans!. Of course we should respect the animals too, and not hurt them for something that in unimportant like lipstick!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
There is usually a division between a lot of people on being against cosmetic testing on animals and on medical testing on animals!. To me, I am 100% against testing on animals; they were not put here for us to exert our harm on them just because we have the power to - might does not equal right!. You're right when you say its hypocritical - you either find animal testing wrong completely, or you don't, its not something that should be half-assed!. To me, giving animals a decent life before cruelty is just as bad - just because you cuddle the mouse before you inject it with painful chemicals and ultimately chop its head off to see what effect all that stuff has done to its brain was!.!.!. really doesn't make it any better!.
Here is why you should be against all testing on animals!. Research has shown that new advances in testing on human cells not only do not involve cruelty to animals, but are also more effective than animal testing!. Why!? Because its actual cells from a human!. We are not cats, dogs, mice, rabbits or monkeys - and although we share some of the same physiology a large portions of medicines proven effective in animal testing fail in human test subjects!. In addition, adult stem cell research is on the foremost of effective testing in medicine today - these are the tests that are going to get us true cures for some of today's leading diseases!.
Many people believe vivisection is cruel but a necessary evil!. Its definitely cruel, but not necessary!. We waste millions of dollars a year on this flawed research that has proved ineffective!. Its time for companies to throw this research out the door and stop being stuck in their old ways!. Newer, better, non-cruel research techniques are out there and companies just need to take the effort to make use of them if they really want to cure diseases!.
Even if you dont care that vivisection is cruel, care about all of your tax dollars that are being wasted on inaccurate research!.
Although animal testing may have been the foremost research in the past and provided cures to many diseases, we have to realize that it is not the past anymore and we have better research techniques today than we did back then!.
In response to some of the statements above, there are foods that are considered to cause cancer!. Many researchers have advocated not feeding children meat or cows milk as they have been shown to promote cancer cell growth!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No you are not a hypocrite!. You are an honest and realistic person with the sense to know that you would put your own life or that of a family member first!.
I am completely against animal testing for products such as cosmetic and cleaning materials, and I am against animal experimentation for its own sake!.
But I owe my life to animal-tested drugs and I am not convinced that there are more reliable ways to test drugs!. I wish there were, but I'm not convinced, and it is too simplistic to argue as some do, and probably will in answer to this question, that animals are not physically the same as us or that some drugs that have been found safe in animals have proved unsafe for humans!.
Most medical advances would not have taken place without animal testing!.
Sometimes we have to consider the lesser of two evils
I'm vegan to minimise my personal contribution to animal suffering and exploitation as much as I can, but I value human life way, way over animal life!. Including my own - I recently read of a drug that may reduce or prevent metastasis of the cancer I had, and am now in remission from!. It was described as at 'the mouse stage'!. If it ever proves effective and I'm still around, I certainly won't be boycotting it - anyone else who wants first place in the line will have to fight me for it!.
Anybody who says they would refuse animal-tested drugs has never had a life-threatening illness or accident!.
Christine is talking nonsense!. There is no food that has been proven to cause any cancer!. Vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters all develop camcer I was diagnosed with cancer after several years as a vegan!.
She knows so little about cancer that in several of her answers she's said cancer is caused by 'cancerous germs' in meat!. Cancer is not caused by germs!. But then she's a troll trying to make vegans look silly, not a vegan!.

Edit* in response to other answers: these are the facts about links between meat and dairy and cancer -
A diet high in meat, particularly red and processed meats, is a known risk factor the development of some colorectal cancers!. A diet high in meat and fat may increase the risk of pancreatic cancer!. A diet high in red and processed meats is thought to possibly increase the risk of stomach cancer!.
A diet high in dairy is thought to be a possible risk factor in prostate cancer, and a diet high in fat may be a risk factor for some other cancers!.
All these are risk factors, some of them not even definite risk factors!. A risk factor is not a cause!.
That's about it for any known connection between meat and the 200+ diseases that come under the umbrella title of cancer!.
It's actually thought that fish could reduce the risk of colon cancer, although, like all the cancer/diet connections it's not been conclusively shown!. But the evidence is strong enough for Cancer Research UK to include it in their information on cancer and diet
And what I said before is a fact, no food or diet has been proven to cause cancer - or treat it, cure it or affect its progress in any way!.

@Silver - how much worse and how much sooner!? For me probably not much; diagnosed at slightly under the lower end of the age range of the majority (80%) of those who get the cancer I had!. Grade 3, which is the most aggressive!. Stage 3, so it was advanced - stage 4 is terminal, there's no stage 5!. Could have been worse - but I don't think my diet actually has a whole lot to congratulate itself on!.
