Vegetarians Who Eat Meat (part two)?!

Question: Vegetarians Who Eat Meat (part two)!?
Apparently, someone didn't like my question and Yahoo agreed, so let's try this again and ensure the rules are 100% followed!.

"Categorize correctly!."
Question about vegetarians in Vegetarian & Vegan section!. Check!.

"Share what you know!."
There are people who do things like cut out red meat for health reasons, but these people typically don't consider themselves a form of vegetarian!. I am familiar with the fact that a lot of people who turn vegetarian do so after watching things like "Meet Your Meat," which shows the suffering of slaughterhouses, so it would only stand to reason that they would swear off all animals and animal by-products!.

"Be courteous!."
As I said in the last question, I am not judging anyone!. We all make our own choices for our own reasons!. It is not my goal to insult or mock anyone for their personal choices!.

"Ask clearly!."
With all this being said, why do people who eat some meats still refer to themselves as various kinds of vegetarian, like "pescetarian" or "pollotarian!?" Many people make a decision like this to limit the suffering of animals, so wouldn't it seem hypocritical to still eat certain animals if this is your goal!?

Hopefully, this question will fare better!. Those who know me around here know that I'm not a troll!. I am just curious as to what you have to say!.!.!.serious answers only!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been thinking about this a lot as I used to consider myself a flexitarian (eating meat only on occasion every few weeks or so and not at all at home)!. I liked having something that showed I was making an effort and that would explain to people why I wasn't eating meat (at least most of the time) but I didn't feel I was a vegetarian (or at least not yet)!. And my last meat was a burger not white meat at all!.

I'd never even heard of the words pescetarian or pollotarian but those don't necessarily fit under flexitarian if they are frequently eating seafood and/or poultry!.

However, as much as I'd prefer they call themselves pescevore and pollovore (I think the words sound better anyway) I much prefer it to pesce-vegetarian or pollo-vegetarian because that just doesn't exist!. You can't be a vegetarian that eats fish and/or poultry because then you are not a vegetarian!. An omnivore who eats mostly vegetarian except for fish and poultry maybe!.!.!. but no way, no how a vegetarian!. Fish aren't swimming veggies and birds aren't flying plants!.

I've been trying to figure out how this idea spread to so many websites to make it seem official and it seems one of them is the book "Idiots Guide to Being Vegetarian" or the "Vegetarian for Dummies" was the genesis of the idea that there are so many choices!.

I have issue with it because if you tell someone you are vegetarian and they think that means you eat fish then serve you some seafood laden meal whether at a restaurant, their home, a wedding, or whatever (I just read of a guy who climbed a mountain to find out his veggie lunch was tuna), that leads to hurt feelings, wasted food and hunger!. I never much liked fish and especially seafood before and I'm not going to like it any better now!.

And that's the confusion those who claim to be vegetarians but still eat seafood and/or poultry cause!. If one is a pescetarian/pollotarian they can still eat a veggie meal without those meats (as can any omnivore too) but a vegetarian doesn't eat clam chowder no matter how boldly it's labeled as meatless!.

So now I write comments to sites and publishers and cooking shows about the labels not being okay, and not using chicken broth, or worcestershire sauce, etc!., in the recipes they claim are vegetarian!.!.!.

Otherwise I welcome everyone to be a meat reducer and thoughtful eater!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

1!. i never heard anyone say they were vegetarian and eat chicken!.

2!. vegetarians that say they eat fish are not vegetarians!.

3!. most people who dont eat pork and or beef do it because beef and pork are less healthy than chicken and fishWww@FoodAQ@Com

This question is the very definition of an oxymoron!. There is no such thing as a vegetarian who eats meat!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many years ago it was acceptable to call a person that ate poultry and fish a vegetarian!. I think that was just because of the level of consciousness of the animals!. For example fish have very few nerves vs cattle so fish would feel less pain, etc!. I think that people who think they are practicing a non-meat eating diet and actually eat certain types of meat are thinking about the much older views on vegetarianism and that is not really accurate!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yahoo nuked one of my answers too because I called somebody's idea of Veganism as "stupid"!. Yahoo needs to grow a pair!.

As for the fakatarians, they do it because they want to seem "cool" and "rebellious" for not eating red meat!.

In very poor islands in the West Indies, people have been eating fish and chicken for ages, and nobody on those islands consider them vegetarian!. So according to those West Indians, those fakatarians aren't cool or rebellious, they're a source of ridicule!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ummm i didn't see part one, so i don't know what the question is :s

it's an interesting point - i love meat, but eat it in sparse quantities because it's 1!. expensive and 2!. not so good for your health!.
Fish is hard to come by cheaply and a pain in the bottom to prepare from a whole fish, head guts and all!.
I know a lot of people who consider eating fish vegetarianism, which is a slight contradiction in terms, but hey, i get them!.

ask me the question again, i'll come back hahaWww@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with you!. I know a LOT of annoying girls (yep, don't know any other guy vegetarian!.!.) who say they're vegetarian because they care about animals, but they still eat chicken (and one girl I know, bacon) because it tastes good!. In other words they care, but they don't want to make an effort!.

It's easy to sympathise for any kind of issue, whether it's tragic deaths, poverty or animal rights, but it leads to the question; does sympathising mean you really care!? In my opinion, you can't say someone cares about something unless they put some effort into showing they care!.

But then again, maybe we're treating these pollo-pescatarians too harsh!? If some people put effort into cancelling out their red meat, I guess they care a little bit!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
