Vegetarians please help?!

Question: Vegetarians please help!?
I have been thinking about becoming a vegetarian!. I mean seriously thinking about it!. I have put a lot of research into this over the past six months, and although I have started eating a lot healthier and have cut back on eating so much meat, I haven't fully committed!.I know a lot of vegetarians don't eat meat because they think it's cruel to animals, and I can respect that!. However, I want to do this for health reason!. Heart disease, diabetes, and high cholesterol, run really high in my family!. I don't want to be yet another family member afflicted with any of these!. I am thirty three years old, I exercise and try to stay fit!. How did you make to commitment to not eat meat!? Was it hard for you!? Do you have any suggestions like should I go cold turkey "no pun intended" or should I ease myself into it!? Any help or suggestions you have would be great!. Thanks!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I was raised vegetarian since birth, so I can't help you with the transition period as much as some other people who have gone through it!.

I have been vegetarian my whole life (33 yrs) and I was always active!. I've never broken a bone, hardly get sick and always seem to have variety in my meals!.

I would suggest the following resources:

Vegetarian Times Cookbook - http://www!.vegetariantimes!.com/

Veg Web recipes - http://vegweb!.com

How It All Vegan (book), by Sarah Kramer and Tanya Barnard

Happy Cow - vegetarian dining guide - http://www!.happycow!.net/browse!.html

If you are changing your diet based on health concerns, I strongly advise you to cut out cow milk!. It causes all types of health problems including Osteoporosis, High Cholesterol, Asthma, Acne, Allergies, etc!.!. Learn more- http://www!.milksucks!.com/milkKills!.asp
A 12-year Harvard study of 78,000 women, those who drank milk three times a day actually broke more bones than women who rarely drank milk!. Similarly, a 1994 study in Sydney, Australia, showed that higher dairy product consumption was associated with increased fracture risk: those with the highest dairy consumption had double the risk of hip fracture compared to those with the lowest consumption!.
I never really liked meat, I became a vegetarian when i was in 5th grade after i was looking around online and read the peta website!. But then later, i found out so many other benefits of being a veg mostly on this site: http://www!.giveusahome!.co!.uk/articles/ve!.!.!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Personally, i went cold turkey!. It worked i got craving at the beginning but not anymore!.

Good luck :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I realized how fat I was and just stopped, like that, one day!. No more meat!. It's been nine years!.

I only craved it a couple of times; it's really not as hard as people make it out to be!. The biggest thing to me was the convenience factor: forget stopping and grabbing a burger or some nuggets when you're in a rush!.!.!. but hey, apples and bananas are WAY healthier anyway!

I'd say start experimenting with making your favorite dishes using meat substitutes; after I started doing that, it was pretty much like "jeez, I really DON'T need to eat meat!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

I quit eating meat cold turkey!. I have quit eating meat strictly due to the cruelty to animals!. I recently became a vegetarian when I found out the risks of eating meat and I found out the horrible crimes that are comitted to innocent animals in slaughterhouses!. It isn't just cruelty!. It's abuse!. You need to quit eating meat cold turkey because if you don't then you're just hurting yourself and you are helping there be more animals to suffer in the slaughterhouses!. If you really care about your health and the animals that are tortured to get the meat then you will stop very quickly!. There is absolutely no reason not to become a vegetarian!. In fact everyone should become a vegetarian!. There are so many benefits!. When you are vegetarian you are on a very healthy diet and you are helping animals that are tortured brutally!. So you are totally doing the right thing becoming a vegetarian:)Www@FoodAQ@Com

well GOOD FOR YOU!! first off!.!. :o) i didn't make a "commitment"!.!. i think of it more of a better life choice really!.!. i eased off of meat myself!.!. that way i could subtitue bocca burgers for hamburgers!.!. just doing little things like that week after week just got a whole lot eiser for me i guess!.!. i jsut eat what i want to and feel great!.!. you will notice (at least i did) i have a WHOLE lot more energy threw the day and i don't need coffee as much to keep me awake!.!. but good luck and know that you are saving the lifes of a lot of souls that will thank you in the afterlife!.!. :o)Www@FoodAQ@Com
