Are you a vegetarian if you continue to eat fish?!
Answers:
No!.
The word was invented in 1847 to describe people who don't eat animals for personal, religious or health reasons!.
The Britannica website has a pretty good, accurate desription:
http://www!.britannica!.com/EBchecked/topi!.!.!.
For many years, a lot of people have said they are "vegetarians who eat fish!." This is contradictory to the original idea!. People who believe in the original concept of vegetarianism never agree that people who eat fish are vegetarians!.
Oddly, the on-line Merriam-Webster dictionary says "a pescetarian is a vegetarian who eats fish!." I have no idea why a well-known dictionary would include a definition that ignores the tradition of the word and omits any evidence of research!. Other definitions in Merriam-Webster show research, the definitions of "vegetarian" and "pescetarian" do not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pescetarian - eats no red meat, but does consume either fish or chicken or both, along with eggs and dairy!.
Vegetarian (also Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian) - eats no meat (no beef, pork, poultry, seafood, etc) but continues to consume either eggs or dairy or both!.
Lacto-Vegetarian - eats no meat and no eggs but does consume dairy products
Ovo-Vegetarian - eats no meat and no dairy but does consume eggs
Vegan - This is where it gets just a little tricky, it's just about where to draw the line!. Vegans strive to eliminate all animal products from their lives!. Vegans do not consume any meat, eggs, or dairy products, and also do not use other products such as leather, wool, etc!. Some vegans consume honey, and some don't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In the GENERAL sense of the word, you're technically not going to be classed as a vegetarian, because fish are still animals and by eating their flesh, you would be classified as omnivorous!.
There are different types of vegetarians, though!. The most extreme being the vegan, who does not eat any animal by-product (eg!. cheese, eggs or milk) in addition to the flesh of animals!. There is a kind of vegetarian who does not eat 'land-animal' and I believe they're called pescatarian!? pescaterian!? (Spelling, anyone!?) So if you break it down for someone and explain this to them, then they'll understand that, yes, in SOME sense of the word, you are a vegetarian!.
I personally don't like "labels" so if you eat mostly veggies and sometimes have meat for protein (or just because it tastes great!) then hey, what are they gonna call you then!? 90%-vege-10%-carnivore!? (like me, lol)!.
*Edit : My Uncle was a vegan and was advised by his doctor to start eating fish for health reasons so he is now pescatarian (or however you spell it) and he says that there is much debate over whether that's "really vegetarian or not"!. Ah, whatever!.!.!. again with the labels *sigh* (lol)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
