Vegans and Dog Bones....?!

Answers:
You shouldn't be changing your animals' diet!. Forcing them to go against nature and be vegan would be a very serious case of abuse and no one should ever do it!.
I am vegan, but my dog and cat aren't because their systems can't handle it!. They are both fed the BARF diet, which requires I touch raw meat!. It's pretty gross to me, but it's the most natural type of diet for them, and it's been proven, both on paper and in my experience, that it's much healthier than kibble!. Part of being vegan is thinking about animals, which I am worried about animal rights, and that is why the BARF diet got started for me: I have to do extra work, but at least I know exactly where that meat is coming from, and I can say with 100% certainty that the animals were cared for and butchered properly!. You were and are a pet owner first before you ever wanted to become a vegan!. Your lifestyle/diet change should not be a burden to or a responsibility of your pets!.
When you got your dogs, you practically made a commitment and an unspoken promise to them that you will provide them everything they need, I suggest you keep that promise!.
On the plus side, there are dog food preparations that are "vegetarian" You might want to consider those and still provide proper nutrition for your pets without the meat bones!. There are also synthetic chew toys that can replace the dental benefits that the bones provide!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You got a lot of great suggestions here in regard to diet and properly caring for an animal!. Don't take people's irrationally negative statements to heart!. You're doing the right thing by continuing to provide a safe and adequate home for your dogs!.
Its completely ridiculous and inappropriate to suggest that getting RID of a pet you ALREADY have is "vegan"!. Its not!. Its cruel and pretty much missing all the basic concepts of veganism in regard to animal rights!.
Finding meat and food sources that are cruelty free, or making use of food that would otherwise be wasted are two great ways to merge being a vegan and a pet owner!. Try asking your meat eating friends/family for their meat/bone (not chicken bones) leftovers that would otherwise go to waste!. (Stay away from fried dough covered meat for the most part!. While a mostly meat diet is good for dogs- fried doughy or especially fatty meat is best avoided as it can cause health issues!.)
As a pet owner your responsibility is to care for the animal to the best of your ability, even if you change food or living arrangements for yourself along the way!.
Remember, becoming a vegan is about a change in diet, as well as lifestyle!. Don't allow other's to pressure you into their version of what a vegan is (or anything else for that matter!)!. What's most important is finding a lifestyle that YOU can live with and manage, because you are the only one (and those who are dependent upon you, like minors and pets) who has to live with the choices!.
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Adopting a dog is saving its life, not exploiting it!
Are you saying set all pets free!? That would torture them!
Taking the dog to the shelter would be a death sentence!
Switch to the mast humane food!. Dogs need meat in there diets, UNLIKE humans who are healthier without it!. This is the food I use for my dogs and cats- http://www!.petpromiseinc!.com/
As cruelty free as it can get without putting your pup on an unhealthy vegetarian dog diet!. Bottom line, it is NOT healthy for a dog to be vegetarian!.
Maybe dogs should not have been domesticated int he first place, but since we did that, we have to care for them, not dump them in a shelter or on the streets!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Keep feeding him RAW bones!. If you didn't want anyone in your household supporting the meat industry you should have gotten a rabbit!.
To the person above me, well this isn't living a vegan lifestyle but it IS a vegan diet she's eating!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is a fact that your dog needs meat to survive!. keep giving it to him!. I feel that if you would die without meat, it is OK to eat it!. this holds true with many animals!. Humans, however, do not need meat to survive, and therefore should not eat it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Try the butcher in the supermarket!.Sometmes they will give customers the scraps that they disregard of!. also you can try your neighborhood bucher,Www@FoodAQ@Com
Bones are not a necessity in a dogs diet!. It is actually better to give them dog biscuit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Just by you cutting out meat makes a big difference, Doll!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
you can't technically be a true vegan unless you get rid of your dogs, for you even owning them is technically exploiting them, and also exploiting the animal bones and food that they consume!.
edit - @ jordan, no it's not, vegan is not just a diet choice, it is a lifestyle by definition and it is all or nothing, PERIOD!.
edit again - "for all of you who believe in getting rid of dogs!.!.!.!.its because of you there are so many unwanted pets"
I never said there was anything inherently wrong with you owning a dog!. I own a dog, the difference is that i am not vegan or vegetarian!. i respectfully answered your question that a true vegan would not own an animal that eats the flesh off of other animals, and that is the truth!. A vegan owning a dog is like someone saying they are vegetarian, but they still consume fish and chicken!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, you are not a dog!. Dogs are designed to eat meat, you are not!. Give your dog meat!. Raw meat if you can!.
That said, many dogs go their whole lives eating dry dog food or low grade horse meat etc!. in cans!. Many humans live their whole life never eating any 'real' food too!. So, I'm willing to to bet that you can find vegan dog food and your dog will do just fine, comparatively!.
Note: only give dogs uncooked boned!. Cooked bones break into shards and can lodge in their mouth or throat!. And, besides, dogs usually bury bones to allow them to decompose a while until they are soft enough to eat!. Eating a fresh raw bone is too hard for them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
