I have an overripe cantaloupe?!

Question: I have an overripe cantaloupe!?
It is so ripe that the side is beginning to cave in slightly!. also there is a tiny amount of fuzzy stuff growing on one end!.

My question is, is it safe and okay to eat it!? It does have a very thick rind, obviously, and so I was thinking that it would be okay if I cut out the insides!?

Yes, I am a single dad and I don't always know the answers to these questions!.!.!.

So, I want to make sure it is safe before I cut into it!.

Any advice is helpful, thank you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Safe, yes!. However, it might be pretty stinky inside!. Take it outside and cut it in half and try a piece from the side furthest from the damaged part and see!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Throw it out!. All melons need to be washed thoroughly before you cut into it!. Many have harmful bacteria due to growing conditions (in certain countries) that get carried into the melon when you slice it!. There was an outbreak due to tainted cantaloupe a few years ago!. The effects can ruin your health for life!. I too was affected!. I ate one piece and became extremely sick for weeks!. I would up with a terrible infection and I needed medication and time off work to recover!. It was YEARS before i ate another cantaloupe and now when I do, I wash it very well and if there is any fuzz or mold on it whatsoever, I throw it out!. I know it sounds crazy, but better safe than sorry!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

outside, the fuzzy stuff is mold and even if it is safe that is nasty!.

outside the birds, racoons or whatever will eat it!.

unless you live in the city, then you will get finedWww@FoodAQ@Com

if it's way too ripe to your liking to munch on it, you could dump it in blender, add some milk, sugar and ice and blend it into a "freeze" drink and sprinkle cinnamon on top!. It's good!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Good god man! You've let that baby sit too long!. Throw it away and next time, put it in the fridge when you buy one!. I dislike wasting food but what you're describing just isn't good to eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your overripe cantaloupe sounds rotten!. The "fuzzy stuff growing on one end," sounds like mold, I would not eat it!. Toss it in your compost heap!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

NO ! Throw it away!. I hate to waste food, but mold spores have roots that extend far beyond what you can see!. Especially if you are feeding your children!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
