What are some statistics on animals rights/welfare?!

Question: What are some statistics on animals rights/welfare!?
Im doing an oral presentation for school and I need some statistics about this topic!. Things along the lines of:

% of people who advocate animal rights/welfare/liberation

% of people who are vegetarians

% of people who are vegans

% of both vegetarians and vegans who don't eat those products BECAUSE of a belief in animal rights etc (not because they dont like the taste or dont trust their butcher)

also can you state where you got the information because I'll need to reference it!.

Thanks a whole bunch!. Animal rights Tally Ho!

Answers:

About 3% of American adults are vegetarian while !.5% are vegan which seems to be the same for children between 8 to 18 and another 10% of adults eat mostly vegetarian!. The world is about 15% though I don't have a link for that at the moment!.

According to a survey earlier this year 59% of vegetarians are female!. That means out of ten vegetarians about 6 will be women!. However, vegans tend slightly to male over females!.

Of all vegetarians (regardless of gender) the whys break down as:

54% cited animal welfare
53% to improve their overall health
47% have environmental concerns
39% said “natural approaches to wellness”
31% for food-safety concerns
25% say weight loss
24% for weight maintenance

It adds up to more than 100% because we can have more than one reason for being veg!. But that also means that nearly 100% of those who chose "weight loss" might have also said "weight maintenance" so those two rather than adding up to 49% of veg*ns could still have been the choice by just a quarter of those polled while those who chose those two could have also chosen all the other reasons too!. My personal original reason isn't among those listed which was political but now animals are a big part (probably the biggest) just not the only part!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
