How to be vegetarian on a low budget, help, used to be veg 3 years?!
i was vegetarian for 3 years aproximatly and stopped so i could join the army!. i didnt want the meat to effect my stomach and make me sick in basic training!. After being denied, i didnt see a point in switching back and just kept eating it!. I kid you not, once i brought meat into my life my depression and anxiety got worse!.
i honestly believe being healthier made my psychiatric symptoms better! so how can i go back to being vegetarian on a low budget!? i live with my mom and sister and they are meat eaters, and dont have the money to buy much boca products and such!.
Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

jeez!. what's with that guy!?
you're right!. it is expensive!. and it does make you feel a lot better!. i don't know if you have access to a sam's club, but i got a giant box of boca vegan burgers there for $10!. For like 30 of them!.
With this economy, it's amazing that anyone can afford to eat!. maybe plant a garden this spring!. eggs are fairly affordable!. beans and rice are cheap!. and you can buy mixes for veggie burgers, tacos, falafel, and those are about $2, a lot cheaper than the frozen stuff!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Find a chinese supermarket they usually have tofu and such for less money!. and you should get a job to pay for it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
oh my god, dan is hillarious!. double LOL!. tsssss
I'm a vegetarian, and I don't eat trees either!. Actually I have a lovely tree friend called Pete the Birch!.
It's a shame that most tofu products are so expensive, but I think it's possible to stay a vegetarian on a low budget!. Many supermarkets offer veggie products now, which you had no chance to get there some years ago!. And it's much cheaper then in health shops (e!.g!. by "Cauldron")!. Another option is to cook and bake a lot yourself!. Buying ingredients is always cheaper than finished products!. Moreover, seasonal fruit and vegetables are always cheaper, so now pumpkin soup (or other things with it), nuts, apples, cabbage like cauliflower are quite cheap!. Maybe there is a market or a farm near you!.
I suck with recipes, but if you google for them, you'll find loads!. Good luck!
Btw, as for your depressive mood, something that always helps is St!. John's wort!.You won't need a prescription for that, but be careful, some pills are made with gelatine!. But there are tablets and tea!. And I found that writing a diary and talking about your problems often help!.
Good luck and all the best! Www@FoodAQ@Com

Veg eating on a budget can be pretty simple, and you don't have to buy the fake meats to be healthy!.
One of my all-time fave cheap meals is black bean and rice burritos!. I use two cans of black beans (rinsed & drained) and about 1 cup of cooked brown rice!. I add to that white onions, garlic, jalapenos/poblanos, tomatoes, green peppers and spices!. I cook that over medium heat!. I put the mix in whole-wheat tortillas and ta-da! I have enough to eat for the entire week if I eat two burritos per night!. Since you're a vegetarian, you can add shredded cheese if you'd like or sour cream!. I top mine with banana pepper rings, black olives, taco sauce/salsa and sometimes I'll even add seitan to the mixture which makes it even heartier!.
Sorry to talk your leg off about one dish!
Just a few rules of thumb that I found out as a vegan on a budget:
~BEANS! They go far and are very versatile!. I try to buy the dried kind as much as possible!. There is a trade off: you have to soak them, but there's less salt!.
~Buy in bulk if you can!. Even though I'm single, I am a member at two big box warehouse stores!. I eat a lot of stir fry dishes and I find that buying a huge bag of Asian-style veggies is totally worth it for me!. If there's a certain food you fancy and it stores well, stock up!
~Fresh fruit and veggies are much cheaper than processed foods!. Buy those as often as possible!. Look for deals in the produce section for food that's almost seen it's time!. They are heavily discounted and there's technically nothing wrong with the food - the stores just can't sell if after a certain date!. Cook it or freeze it as soon as you get home!.
~Never underestimate the value of soups/stews and salads!. While they might not sound filling, they can be if you make the right kind!. Soups are not only easy to make, but they last a long time!. If you eat some garlic or crusty bread with a bowl of soup for dinner and have a semi-healthy dessert, you'd be surprised at how full you can be!.
I hope that helps and I hope you start to feel better (emotionally)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
