Is it hypocritical to be against animal abuse, but at the same time to eat meat?!

Question: Is it hypocritical to be against animal abuse, but at the same time to eat meat!?
:/ I eat meat, but I absolutely hate animal abuse, or any way to harm them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I think they are completely different and not hypocritical!.

Vegetarian because you are against animal abuse doesn't mean you are stopping anything at all!. Just because a large number doesn't eat meat does not mean they affect how animals that are abused or tortured are processed!.

Me as well as millions of other people don't like and refuse to eat or buy Raisin Bran, that doesn't mean that I've done anything to stop the production of it!.

So don't worry about it, if you are really passionate, research companies who are known to abuse animal rights and start protesting if you want to make a difference!.

To eat meat is natural and perfectly fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There's a difference between animal abuse, and a quick clean kill!.

Anyone who tells you that it is hypocritical is just wrong, not everything is black and white!.

Animals bred for food live good lives with all the food, shelter, and warmth they could ever want!. They live much better lives for the time they are here than they could ever dream of living in the wild!. They die quickly and painlessness so do not fret over it!.

No, that is not hypocritical of you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Even though most people won't agree with me, I think it is extremely hypocritical!.

The way animals are killed is very inhumane!. By eating meat, you are supporting the killing of animals in an inhumane way, and thus supporting animal abuse!.

Some people say it is a necesity to eat meat, however the fact is that a vegetarian diet is healthier than a meat-eeating diet!.

So if you sum it all up, you are supporting the killing of animals for their taste, yet you complain about abuse!. I don't know about you, but killing is pretty close to abuse!.

This is kind of biased, but the point stays the same!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

people that are responding saying the two are not connected are grossly misinformed!. the worst animal cruelty takes place in the meat and dairy industry!. some say not eating meat doesn't stop the process, but if you get one percent of the meat eating population to stop, it puts a serious dent in the meat industry!. same goes for dairy as well!. being a vegetarian alone saves the lives of 40 animals!. some say, they will be eaten anyway, but that's a defeatist attitude!. that's like saying why bother helping people who are in humanitarian crises in africa, they will just die anyway!. it's a terrible attitude to have about life!. if you are serious about being against animal abuse, you can't be a meat-eater!. it's totally hypocrtical!. if you don't think animals are being harmed in the meat and dairy industry, think again!. pick up a couple books that will maybe change your mind: meat market, mad cowboy, vegan: the new ethics of eating, or even skinny *****!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Absolutely not!.

Cruelty is an affront to our humanity and you are right to abhor all abuses of animals, just as you would abhor all abuses of people!.

The thing about eating meat is that you might have to think a bit more about what meat you eat, in order to avoid the worst animal abuses!.

As an example, locally grown organic meat is made from animals that have had a better quality of life and a more painless death than intensively farmed animals that may be exported live from Latin America or Australia for weeks on end, or driven across Europe for days at a time!.

Personally I also feel that Halal meat is cruel because it involves killing an animal by slitting its throat without stunning it first!. I am aware that Islamic people will disagree with this but we are all entitled to our opinions and obliged to think for ourselves!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm afraid so!. The worst abuse to animals occurs in the meat, dairy, and egg industries, and it also comprises the vast majority of abused and exploited animals!. And it's not just when they're killed, but during their lives that they suffer, something many folks answering here seem to have forgotten!.

Even "free-range" isn't as cruelty-free as the marketers would have you believe, as they are killed in the same brutal slaughterhouses as conventionally raised animals!. There's no such thing as humane meat!. And killing animals for food, no matter how well they're treated during their lifetimes, is surely harming them, don't you think!?

If you can't see yourself going vegetarian or vegan, consider eating less meat, dairy, and eggs, and buy the less cruelly produced products when you do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

personally, animal abuse is what caused me to become a vegetarian!. a coworker was telling a long elaborate story about how she killed a snake in her yard, and i was so upset by it i broke down in tears -- and she still wouldn't stop telling the story!
the next day, i found myself unable to eat my homemade chicken noodle soup for lunch!.!.!. i just stared at it, with an uneasy feeling in my stomach!. i kept thinking of the snake that had been killed!. that was more than 4 months ago, and i haven't eaten meat since!.

i do think it's kind of hypocritical to eat meat while being against animal abuse!. the ways animals are slaughtered for their meat are none too pretty!. it might be all over for the animal soon, but for that moment before it dies, it feels pain and fear, and i personally am not ok with that!.

it took me a LONG time to see things this way!. i would list the ingredients of scrapple (a somewhat regional meat-product, which is made of the organs of animals that would otherwise go to waste) as i joyfully ate it, but at the same time would cry while watching animal cops on animal planet!. it was crazy! for me, it took an actual event happening that hit close to home for me to change my thinking!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

No it's not!. I want to know the meat I heat is humanely slaughtered and prepared!.

Oddly enough it is those who are so anti meat-eaters are the best people shutting down the meat works that abuse the animals!.

It is a shame they dump on the whole meat industry for the faults of a few!.

I am having Lamb tonight that I believe comes from a certified butcher who still does it himself!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Than choose your groceries wisely!.

Organic, free range!.

also, people ask if its at odds that I advocate hunting while I'm a vegetarian!. I'll explain: Think about the amount of food in a single grocery store!. Multiply that by every single grocery store in our nation!. We over produce!. It causes a strain on the environment, and animals bread for slaughter are NOT in natural habitats, nor are the treated well!. However, if you were to only take what you needed, WHEN you needed it, both our animals and our environment would fare far better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Abuse suggests intentional long lasting suffering!.

While killing an animal for its meat can be quick and thus spare the animal long term suffering!.

So I don't see them on the same field of play!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Thats how I am so I hope not!. You can be feel better by buying free-range animals!. Its a little hippyish but I feel better than having the animals in cages like they are common criminals!. To each there own though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no it's not!. although sometimes they go hand in hand, you don't have to make life changes to know that something is wrong and stand against it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No!. Many people (myself included) believe that Nature provided us with animals as a food source!. We can eat animal flesh without abusing the animal during it's life!. I see no conflict!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think so, if you feel inclined try giving up the meat of the animal you feel most empathy for if you feel sad for lambs don't eat them see how you go Www@FoodAQ@Com

its not hypocritical!.

abuse, and do something for a purpose are completely different!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

not if you know where your meat came from and you are satisfied it was reared and killed humanely!. ideally do it yourself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, they are not contradictory terms!. You just don't want to eat tortured animals!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Unfortunately, yes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A little bitWww@FoodAQ@Com

there are brands that are abuse freeWww@FoodAQ@Com

no and yes!.

No because there is alot of people that care
about the abuse of animals, mainly domesticated animals (cats, dogs, birds) stuff like that!.

and Yes because you say you don't like animal abuse but by eating meat therefore buying meat products your supporting the slaughter and inhumane slaughter of animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A little bit!.

The average way that an animal is slaughtered is extremely inhumane!. (Cows and Pigs especially)

I eat meat, and I worry about this all the time!.

I just can't stay away from it though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

unless you raise your own cows, its not safe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
