your own health!? Every other vegan i know is vegan because they are against animal cruelty!. I personally am against cruelty but I still use products tested on animals or medicines!. I have a vegan diet and I dont eat or wear animal products but am i still a hypocrite because I do this!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
No, it's not bad!. And if you need to take medicine, most vegans won't have an issue with that!. You could try to find other non-food, non-medicine items that are not tested on animals, but it's your life!.

Technically, you're a strict vegetarian, but when you're out eating with friends at an omni restaurant, I won't bring the vegan police down on you if you tell the server you're vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If the hair shirt doesn't fit why put it on!? You are entitled to your opinions and your motives!. Personally, I applaud your choice, and I will add this -- people who are committed to this diet for reasons of health are more likely to stick with it than those who are committed because of a compassionate response to cruelty shown to animals!. The only people who are likely to be more committed are those who have been since birth due to spiritual & religious convictions!. So hold up your head and carry on!. As for the products you may be using which are tested on animals and any medicines you may be using -- frankly, I think as your consciousness continues to grow and you become more educated, and as the companies too become more educated and realize that they are losing business by their practices -- both you and they are likely to change perspective and this will soon be a non-issue!. Well, being vegan is holding an ethic of compassion and respect for all sentient life, and not eating or using animal products as far as possible is part of that ethic!. Eating a plant centred diet doesn't in itself make you vegan then, any more than eating a kosher diet makes you Jewish!.

There is a vegitan (VE-GEE-TAN) a person who consumes only plant material in their diet, but may still use other animal products!. I think you are closest to this perhaps!. So you're not a vegan, but you can happily say you're a vegitan if you wish!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should do what you want to do, but do be careful!. If you are vegan, you need to take vitamin B12, you can only get the correct B12 from tablets or animal sources!. There is B12 in some plant sources, but the wrong sort!. You need linseed, also known as flaxseed for Omega 3 and you need to make sure that you are eating the right foods for your iron - you need to eat foods containing iron and Vitamin C together so that you can absorb the iron better!. Parsley and watercress contain both!.

A vegan diet can be healthy, but it takes work and knowledge!.

No you're not a hypocrite at all!. You are being quite open about your choices!.

I'm vegan and for me it's because I choose to minimise my personal contribution to animal suffering as much as possible!.

But, although I avoid products that have been tested on animals, I use essential medication that has, by law, been tested on animals; I'm still a vegan as defined by the man who coined the word, and that's good enough for me!.

By choosing to use animal-tested products you may not strictly speaking be a vegan; but how often do any of us claim the titles vegan or vegetarian in real life!? Usually only when we're eating out or eating with friends!. And on those occasions you'll need to say vegan, because if you say 'strict vegetarian' people will assume you eat things you don't, and you'll only have to explain at length anyway!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that only you can answer this!. Personally, I'm an omnivore!. But, I try to cut down on red meats and eat more legumes and whole grains!.
The 50's were pretty bad for the average America's diet!. That's when basic meat and potatoes were introduced as the basis for a meal!.
I do think you should watch your diet even closer trying to eat a Vegan diet!. Your body will still require the correct amounts of protein and other nutrients!. Meat is an easy protein!. Most Americans consume too much protein!.!.!.!.but that doesnt' mean you should consume too little!.

Vegetarian - an old Native American word meaning "bad hunter"!.

Do you really care what other people think of your choices!? If you chose to be vegan for your health then that is your reason!. If someone else does it for some other reason, then that is theirs!.

There is no right or wrong here!. It is all personal choices and one is not more "right" than the other!.

You do not need to concern yourself about what others think, only your own personal convictions!. To do anything else is hypocritical!.

No, just because the way you chose to be vegan is different, you are still just that, a vegan!. There is nothing bad about it!. I personally am a vegetarian because I am against animal cruelty, but people who become veg*n for their own health, that is fine, and it makes them no lower degree of vegan!.
Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm wondering how you can be against cruelty while continuing to support industries that torture and kill millions of animals annually!.

As long as you don't call yourself a vegan, but instead someone who eats a vegan diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no you just aren't technically vegan you are a high degree of vegitarian and just doing it for your own health isn't bad, it just means your concerned about your health!. just because they are peta members doesn't mean you have to be!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I went hunting for deer this morning!. I choose to not eat beef or pork just because I don't it in my body!. I eat what I want and don't want for me, no one else!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you aren't weird already, you will become very weird because every Vegan I have ever met was a WEIRD DUCK!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
