What influenced you to be a vegetarian?!
For me it's the lack of respect given to the animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i love animals and when i was in 6th grade i found out where meat came from and im like eww and have been a vegetarian since!. i never really ate meat anyways except for like chicken nuggets and fast food burgers!. yeah i did it for animal reasons obvs!. i'd rather my body not be a graveyard for a poor animals corpse xDWww@FoodAQ@Com
I was influenced by actually taking the steps to find out where my food came from!. I was so disturbed at both the way animals were treated and my total ignorance, that I haven't touched meat since!.
I do occasionally miss the taste and texture of meat (my partner is not vegetarian and always cooks up my old favourites) but I always ask myself if the animal was stood there in front of me - would I kill it!? The answer is always no!. And that is my motto - if I wouldn't kill it myself, then I won't eat it!.

Me becoming a veg was very gradual!. I never liked the taste of red meats and fish in the first place (it tasted too bland, too greasy, too mushy, or got stuck in my teeth!. It was kinda hard to get off of chicken, but I still manage)!. So you could say the meat had it coming!.
I have to admit, the process was kind of romantic too!. You see, the girl I liked was a vegetarian, so that made me think about it and ask myself, "Self, why in the world would anyone want to be a vegetarian!?"
So I typed it in on Google and I found essays, PowerPoint's, ancient philosophical apologetics, and some videos-- plethora of non-PETA, non-biased resources, enough to convince me that vegetarianism was for me and for the planet and for my mental/philosophical health!.
I might have mentioned before that I, like Gandhi, believe in living a simple lifestyle as free of violence as possible!. Meat is symbolic of power, strength, high social status, and luxury, and I didn't want to be associated with those things!. I'd much have rathered be associated with humility, generosity and simplicity (which is also why I don't wear leather or fur, which I also consider "violent" luxuries)!. This is an argument unrefutable enough for me to have a good reason to be a vegetarian!.
also, poeple's endless stupidity about vegetarians usually encourages me to keep going!. ^^
So all in all, it all started with a girl and ended with a more caring, environmentally-friendlier, healthier me!. And it keeps going!. :D

Man, you guys are so!.!.!.!.human!.
If you look past the humanitarianism and look at the big picture-> if the pigs were the ones to grow enormous brains and become the dominant earth species, do you really think they would just leave us be and live in a natural and harmonious way with us!? I dont!. Like someone said, animals dont respect us!. From what i have seen they simply use us for their needs!. An animal is friendy to a person because they feed it and give it pats and let it have water!. No other reason!.
It, to me, is a natural thing to farm livestock, process them and use them to feed your species!. Is not the goal for any species to survive!? We do it spectacularly!. I like animals, i even have a flock of sheep myself, I know they are individuals, i know they can be friendly creatures, heck i even have a potty lamb who follows me everywhere!. BUT if we hadn't bred them and made them become what they are, i wouldnt have them in my paddock, they wouldnt be alive and most likely, wild dogs, big cats etc!. would have wiped them out!. They would be alive at all!. also, like it or not, killing is a normal part of the world!. People kill each other!. I imagine most of you live in the US, they have the highest rate of murder in the all the major countries!. Death is normal!. We are human and overthink these things we imagine the horror of ourselves being sent to slaughter!. Animals arent capable of that kind of thought!. They dont come into the area where they are imediately stunned and made unconcious, thinking 'oh god, im going to die! ah ah ah!'
On the other hand, some producers dont respect the animals and do treat them cruely!. I dont agree with that kind of management!. But if you look after your livestock and it makes you money which enables you to feed your family, then i dont see the problem!.
-Sorry that dosent actually answer your question but more refers to what you said about lack of respect to the animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

there were many reasons for me, first off i never liked meat much, i quit eating red meat when i was 7 because i hated the taste of it, and then became vegetarian when i was 15 (im 18 now)!. next it is generally a healthier lifestyle, if you look at the thing the inject animals with it's disgusting, because even after cooking the meat some of the unnatural stuff (like growth hormones) are still there!. and then that goes into animal rights, i do not agree with animals being killed just for our food!. if people still had to go out and hunt, then maybe i would see it as the circle of life, but just raising them, injecting them with hormones, keeping them in terrible living conditions and then simply killing them does not seem right to me at all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I respect your decision to respect the animals! Alot of people think that vegetarians are crazed, psycho, preachy individuals who only believe that we all have to die to save the planet (but that would seriously be the only way for it to work ^_^) This is not true at all!. What's wrong with giving some respect to other living creatures on the Earth we all share!? I know animals may not have brains as large as us or opposable thumbs =) but we should still kind of be in consideration for their feelings!. I must say that in the beginning, it wasn't all about the slaughtering of animals for me!. There is a circle of life, and the theory "Eat or be eaten" is so true and applies to all animals, even us ! Animals will always kill each other, and we will always kill animals and ourselves unfortunately, so I'm not so hung up on that anymore!. My choice was more for health reasons because I also chose to go organic and eat healthier when I chose to give up meat!. It's not that hard for me any longer, and I just want meat-eaters to know that we're not crazy (even though I do know some really crazy, judgmental, preachy vegetarians! They even annoy the hell out of me because I still eat some seafood!) my theory gradually became "If I can't kill it, I won't eat it!." I don't expect others to understand me, but they should at least respect our decision!. I have no problem with non-vegetarians!. I was one until recently and loved meat!. There's nothing wrong with eating meat for protein reasons and such!. I am in no way judgmental, so to all the vegetarians, bravo! Much respect, and to the meat-eaters, I respect you as well (Maybe one day you'll decide to join the dark side, but in the meantime, you're still pretty cool!) Peace!. Best of luck to you!Www@FoodAQ@Com
I changed mostly for my health, because I had kept on reading about how much better a vegetarian diet is for your health than a meat-based one when done properly!. The first week that I switched, I lost 2!.5 pounds and 1 inch off my stomach! I feel so much better and more energized than when I ate meat!.
also, saving the animals and planet doesn't hurt either XD Www@FoodAQ@Com

Same here!.
And to be honest, meat doesn't taste good to me!.
also the fact that humans aren't supposed to eat meant since our teeth can't rip through a carcass!.
Natural design didn't do that for us!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
