Vegetarians & Vegans?!
I was just wondering why more vegetarians don't become vegan!?
What is the reason that people will stop at vegetarian!? Is it because they think they will miss cheese or milk too much or what!?
I'm vegan, I used to be veggie, for me it was because I thought I'd miss cheese too much, but I didn't!. I was wondering why more people don't become vegan!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was a vegetarian that ate dairy and eggs for many years before finally becoming vegan!. Dairy and eggs are in so many things I felt it would be overwhelming to try to eliminate them!.
One day I attended a veggie fest and listen to a speaker talk about just how bad dairy products actually are for us!. I stopped to think about how we are duped into thinking its healthy for us to consume the milk of another species and how not one animal on earth needs to consume milk -- even from its own species -- past infancy!. Why was I consuming it!? The hormones (even the natural ones not added artificially) are just one more cancer causing element in the world that I could eliminate if I wanted to -- and after much thought and research -- I decided to GET RID OF IT!.
I also discovered that the dairy industry is A VERY CRUEL INDUSTRY and why would I want to support it anyway!? At the same time the horror of the egg industry was reveled to me in a very disturbing way!. I no longer wanted to support that either -- I decided that it would not be so hard to be vegan after all!.
I am happier and healthier for the choice to become vegan that I had at first thought would be so impossible!.
P!.S!. Its not so difficult to be vegan at all!. You learn very quickly what to look for and avoid!. Checking labels becomes second nature!. It is not a hassle at all and if you think it is -- its well worth the hassle anyway!. :o)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I never was a "complete" vegetarian before I became vegan!. I never purposefully avoided all meat/eggs/dairy!. When I made the choice to be a Vegan it was a little difficult, but it got easier every day!. People think that it is "hard" to read labels or they "can't" give up their favorite foods, but I didn't miss cheese as much as I thought that I would, and I eat a large variety of food that is more nutritional than the diet I had previously!. Reading labels becomes second nature and you become familiar with products that are vegan that you can eat!.
I think that veganism or vegetarianism remains a personal choice, and I won't pass judgement on people who eat animal products or whatever, because when people realise what they are doing to themselves, the environment and animals they will make the turn around pretty quick!. And yes, I think it is selfish to be aware of the cruelty towards animals that are used for clothing and not give it up!. It takes a little effort to find shoes that are made with synthetic materials, but they are usually cheaper and hey, they aren't from a dead animal!. I also think it is selfish to be aware of the maltreatment that arises from the production of eggs and milk and not remove those things from your diet!. Again, that is my personal opinion, and People can eat/wear what they want!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

People choose vegetarian and/or vegan diets for different reasons!.!.!.
Some people may cut out meat and fish only, for health reasons (I'm one of these), but continue to eat limited dairy products and eggs!. I much prefer my vegetarian diet to my old carnivorous one, but would never drop delicious dairy!.!.!.
My choice was also based on animal rights to some degree, but I feel comfortable with organic dairy and egg products, as limited stress is put on the fuzzys!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not vegan because I don't want to be!. I like milk!. I like eggs!. I love honey!. I don't see it as "stopping" at being vegetarian!. I see it as making the choice to be vegetarian!. My decision doesn't make me any better or worse then anyone else and to say it does is judgemental and rude - it's my choice to live my life my way just as being vegan is your choice!. It's what is right for you, not everyone!.
I don't believe in killing animals but I do believe in humanly using what they produce, just as I believe in using what people produce!. I drink organic milk and eat cage free eggs!. I use locally made honey!. I don't judge other people's eating habits or lecture them, but I do try to make my food as tasty, filling and good looking as I can, to show what vegetarian eating can be!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because most of us believe that our diet does not include or encourage anything that has involved cruelty and so our consciences are satisfied!.
For me personally as long as the dairy I consume is free range then I'm satisfied!. I buy my eggs and milk from the local farms which are all free range and I won't buy any other dairy unless I know it's from a free range or Freedom Food source!. I don't believe that any part of my diet includes anything that involved cruelty so I don't feel I need to cut out anything more out of it!. I also don't buy anything tested on animals or made of leather or any other animal skin so I believe my dietary and consumer habits are cruelty-free!.
Hope this helps you:-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I often wonder the same question!. Being vegan is not hard if you can cook!.
I don't understand how people can go "it's cruel to kill a cow for meat" but not think it's cruel to kill a calf so you can drink its mother's milk!.
You can get vegan cheese and ice cream nowadays (the ice cream is particularly brilliant I think!)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

its hard for me to live with the fact im not!. it just cuts out so many things and i think i'd accidentally cheat alot and then feel terrible!. and its already hard to order at a restuarant as a vegetarian (im a lacto ovo) so i cant imangine trying as a vegan!. i only eat organic (cage free) milk and eggs!. i try to be as humane as possible!. thanks for understanding and not being mean! ^_^Www@FoodAQ@Com
"For me, I became vegan as I felt I was still supporting the meat industry by drinking milk etc!."
I know what you mean!
I studied this alot for a business letter i wrote
and i've found some say: "Im a vegetarian who thinks like a vegan!."
Partly after PETA told me:
"dairy cows have huge electric machines hooked up to their huge, swollen udders, causing cuts an injuries - and resulting pus, blood, and scabs that all end up in that milk mustache"
But i agree that it's better then nothing, huh!? (:
Its a hard and drastic change overall tho, it takes time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Probably for the reasons you have stipulated as well as the fact that they think it may be too restrictive in terms of the recipes they can come up with!. here's a link to a site for vegetarians and vegans alike with lots of delicious recipes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
My boyfriend became a vegetarian recently because his girlfriend (that's me) is a vegan and it's easier cooking for both of us now!. He doesn't want to go vegan because sadly, he's still addicted to cow cheese and ice cream!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It is really a good question!. Even I have asked this question!. But you know I cant say that I am a complete veg!. as I eat eggs due to some medical issues so !.!.but I think its mainly because and milk and its byproducts that holds a person from becoming a vegan!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
i don't become a vegan cause it's too hard!. you have to check labels all the time and it's really hard to avoid dairy products now a days!.
plus you can never go out and eat!.
it's just kind of a hassle more than anythingWww@FoodAQ@Com

I have no desire to become vegan!. I do love cheese, eggs, other dairy products, honey, wearing leather boots, etc!.
Am I a terrible person for this!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not all Vegetarians are so because of the animals!. Some just don't like the taste of meat or do it for health reasons!. A lot are happy with making some sacrifice, but don't want to do more!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
there's a lot more to being a vegan than giving up cheese!. it's milk (and I hate soy milk), and ANYTHING made by an animal!.
I don't see the reason to become vegan at all actually!.!.!.!.!.we were made to eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was more like I LOVEEE cheese!! I cant live with out cheese!!
but now I'm vegan for almost 3 months!.!. How many times have I missed cheese!? Almost zero!. I do miss cheese pizza's on occasion but I don't miss Swiss, or cheddar cheese!. which is good!
Or maybe they figure there isn't much to eat that's vegan!. I thought that soon after the switch but I'm adjusting quite well and there are a lot options! (Just miss junk food like drakes devil dogs, or crumb cakes!.!.!. or yodels!. lolol sigh!.!.!. :) )
My reason for becoming vegan mostly was thinking about dairy cows!. and thinkiing "breast milk" and I was like I don't want to breast feed my babies! So why should a cow breast feed their whole life for a different species!. and then blah blah blah it grossed me out a lot!. plus the chickens!.!.!. so yea!. lol maybe they just don't think about that really!.
BUT! Vegetarians still make a huge difference than non vegetarians!. So yay for them anyway!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been a vegetarian for 8 years, do not wear animal-derived materials like leather or fur, and don't buy things tested on animals when possible!. I have thought about going vegan, but decided not to!.
I wouldn't mind the label-reading, I do quite a bit of that already!.
As I live with my parents and brothers, and am the only vegetarian, we already make 2 versions of a lot of foods, like lasagna and spaghetti sauce!. My parents are supportive of my choice and buy me veggie 'meats' and tofu, but I don't want to add vegan cheese and milk and stuff to the grocery list, because of cost and space, and as I'm the only one who will eat it, some might go bad before I finish it, and I hate wasting food!.
It is also for the protein and other nutrition too, a bit!. I know a vegan diet is perfectly capable of providing everything needed nutritionally, but it would take a while to adjust and figure out what I need to eat to get everything, and I already have to watch my protein and iron levels for medical reasons!.
I'm thinking when I move out I will change my diet a bit!. I don't think I'll go vegan, but I will probably cut back on my dairy and egg intake, and possibly try vegan substitutions once in a while!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegans do not get their essential Omega-3 acids found in fish, which can lead to brain dysfunction!. Milk is healthy and builds strong bones and teeth!. Eggs are a good source of protein, and one of the only sources of protein for vegetarians!. That's why they don't become vegan - because a vegan diet is deficient in three essential nutrients!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
