Probably a stupid question about vitamins?!
Hi!. I am a vegan monday - friday and vegetarian saturday and sunday in my attempt to lose weight!. i did weigh 145 pounds and im 5'2so far ive lost 10!.5 pounds in about 21 days and want to lose another 14 or so doing the same thing!. i eat lots of different fruits and veggies all day and all natural whole grain bread!. my question is, i know i need to be taking a vitamin and im looking for one!. ive found that most vitamins have like way more than 100 percent of the daily value needed, like 3330 percent of vitamin B12 which is needed for veggies and vegans!. but with that excess amount of the vitamins i need, will my weight lose decrease!? im sure this is a dumb question to those that know about the topic but i don't know anything about vitamins and weight loss so if u have time to be polite and give me some knowledge on the topic i would greatly appreciate it!. FYI i have been a vegetarian for a year now and for the reasons of Animal cruelty not to lose weight!. im doing the vegan thing to lose weight and watch what i eat more and to make sure i eat more fruits and veggies!.and b4 anybody gets mad i get my eggs from a farm down the street from my house where there is like 10 chickens just running around doing what chickens do, no cages, no violence!. and i dont drink milk or eat cheese or yogurt!. Taking a Vitamin B-Complex pill shouldn't make you gain weight!.
Congratulations on your weight loss! It sounds like you are trying to be as healthy as possible with your goals!.
B6 has toxicity symptoms when taking more than 50 mg a day
B9 may show toxicity if you take more than 12 mg a day
The other B vitamins can be taken in pretty large doses without issue!.
Interactions:
B1 (Thiamine) can be depleted in your body by sugar, alcohol or tobacco consumption
B9 (Folic Acid) must be taken in the B-complex form and not by itself, if taken in pill form!. If you drink alcohol you need "extra" folic acid, b/c it decreases absorption of this vitamin!. Taking Birth Control Pills also increases your body's demand for folic acid and could create a life-threatening deficiency!. If you take seizure medication like Dilantin or Phenytoin, the folic acid will compete with your medication and doses of 1800 micrograms or more may cause seizures in these people taking the seizure medication!.
B12 may not be absorbed properly in your body if you take large doses of vitamin C (like 1000mg or more per meal)!.
B6 will become inactive if you are on TB medicine (Isoniazid), or rheumatoid arthritis medicine (Cupramine or Penicillamine)!. Studies show that alcohol, smoking and birth control pills lower your B6 levels and supplementation of B6 at 25 to 50 mg a day is recommeded if you are on any of these 3!. Drugs for Parkinson's disease will become inactive by B6!. Therefore if you take Parkinson's medication you shouldn't supplement with B6!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
