Veg*ns: Is It All About The Animals For You?!

Question: Veg*ns: Is It All About The Animals For You!?
My Dear 2V (get it!? Vegetarian & Vegan!? :D ),

I am just curious how many of you went veg*n for reasons other than the animals!. While many of us have a variety of reasons to make this choice, there is always a primary factor!. Just because you chose this for the animals doesn't mean that there aren't other reasons, and if you chose this for other reasons, it doesn't mean you don't care about animals!.

For me, I became disabled in the US Marine Corps!. My only medical option was to live out my life sedated on a cocktail of prescribed drugs!. No thanks!. I began to look at other options for my condition, and learned a vegan and raw diet were the best for people like me!. I had thought about it before when I read in the first chapter of Daniel how beneficial a vegan diet was, and again when I renewed my spirituality and began to wonder how I could really live in harmony when I ate the flesh of things that were brutally killed, but when I read this about my condition, I was sold!. I used to be a bodybuilder and find that it's easier for me to make strength and size gains in the gym now that I'm vegan, so it seems that my dream of competing may actually come true someday!. BTW, for any of you with fibromyalgia or know anyone with it, that is the condition that I have!.

Anyway, that is my story!. What about yours!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, compassion for animals is currently a large part of why I am vegetarian now, but I first changed my eating habits when my brother was diagnosed with a rare colon cancer at 29!. I truly just wanted to live as best I could, giving my body the most nutrition and the best chance at health!. Tim passed away, but I have evolved my diet into natural, organic, vegetarian (with small amounts of organic eggs and cheese) and my lifestyle is more vegan - meaning that I do not wear or use animal (including tested on) products!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For me, it is about the animals and the environment, those are two issues I really care about, and when you eat animals you are helping to destroy this world!. I want to see a change in this world, and I have to start with myself!. I believe in respect to each other, not just human respect, but I respect other living things and the Earth!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For me, it's all about the animals -- and I'm one of them! :o)

I am happy knowing that I am responsible for the least possible suffering of animals, including human animals, because of my food choices!. We are all a little healthier because our environment is healthier for every one less suffering animal produced for food on our earth!.

As a bonus, I look better and feel better too!

Well my mother was a vegetarian when I was younger and I thought, "Hey, Why don't I try it!." I tried it, liked it, stuck with it, have been one for a little over a year now!.
It's not really for the animals thing, all though I do feel sad when animals are killed, but I wanted to lose weight, and I did :DWww@FoodAQ@Com

Animals, as long as I remember I have been close to animals, my first memory is of a dog I had named Spot being taken away because he was sick!. I was two and I clearly remember sitting in his dog box as my dad took him away crying!. I have no other reasons for it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

50% animals - 50% healthWww@FoodAQ@Com

It's all about the animals for me baby!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love meat! being a vegan doesnt mean a bull isnt gonna hit and try to kill uWww@FoodAQ@Com

It was this past summer and I had made hamburgers on the grill and immediately after dinner I hopped on the computer and in my email I had a message from PETA!. I spent the next couple of fours watching every video on their website and reading all of their literature!. After seeing the animals suffer that was all it took!. My boyfriend and I went Vegan cold turkey that night and not once have we regretted it!. For the first month or so being vegan wasn't about health reasons at all but after doing research on it I am very much vegan because of health reasons as well!. We have never felt better, nor have we looked as good as we do now!. Our skin is amazing, our hair is awesome!. I no longer have bloating and my face is no longer puffy when i wake up!. The only thing I would have done differently is start this sooner!. The truth is, I used to suffer from bulimia when I was in my teens!. I am now 21 and even though I don't have an eating disorder anymore I always had a battle with food!. Being vegan has literally turned my life around!. I now eat to survive instead of live to eat!. I have a very healthy relationship with food and never in a million years would I have thought this to be possible!. Some of the things I find amazing about being vegan is I used to have dark circles under my eyes no matter how much sleep I got and my eyes would always be puffy too when I would wake up!. After becoming vegan I no longer even need to wear concealer under my eyes or even need foundation for that matter!. I also used to get cold soars about ever 2 months and I have not had one since I've gone vegan!. I used to have a puffy spot on my ankle and my doctor said it was water or something but I could never get rid of it!. It is now gone!. If people go vegan and actually do it right and dont pig out on oreos and potato chips than it will completely change their lives!. People who say their doctors ordered them to eat meat or drink dairy because they were lacking something is a bunch of crap!. If people ate a well balanced diet of fruit, veggies, carbs, legumes, tofu etc!. than there is absolutely NO reason for anyone to be lacking anything!. That is my story, and I'm stickin to it :) oh, and congrats on being Vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Compassion for animals is a big part of it but it's not everything!. I went vegan and vegetarian (I'm currently vegan-ish, meaning I avoid dairy and eggs as much as I can but will turn a blind eye to these ingredients if I'm a bit desperate) for other reasons too!. It makes sense health-wise, it's way, waaaay better for the environment and it's better for humanity in general too (you cannot sustain or even come close to sustaining the world population on a meat heavy diet)!.

All these are interlinked, what's better for us as individuals more often than not is also better for other humans beings, animals and the rest of the planet!. It's never a matter of "us or them", we're all on the same boat like it or not!. A boat called Earth!. Sorry for the bad metaphor! Www@FoodAQ@Com

I tunred vegetarian when i was four!. It was then that i realised the little bunny running around in my kid book, was on my plate!. I said i was turning vegetarian then, and that was it!. I haven't eaten any meat since then (egg white-accidentaly in my soy sausages, didn't realise till a few years later)

So i have been vegetarian since then!. But i was always fine with other people eating meat!. If a friend came over and we were ordering pizza, it would be a meat one for him/her!.
Maybe five years ago i heard about peta and saw exactly what was happening in the slaughterhouses!. Since then i've been very pro-vegetarian, and theres no more meat!.

It was all about the animals!. It still is!.
Though it helps to be healthy and not have all those diseases and high cholestrol (and a low IQ haha)Www@FoodAQ@Com

For me it is mostly about animals!.

I wanted to be a vegetarian for years, since I was really young!. I've always liked animals and it never really felt right to me to eat them!. My parents didn't like the idea and refused to let me give up meat, so I gave up on the idea for years!.

Then, by chance, I ended up with some pet chickens!. I realized how real they are--they have feelings, thoughts, emotions!. They like some people/chickens and dislike others!. They're really just like any other animal, except people don't normally get to see that!. Once I got them, I refused to eat any kind of poultry!.

About!.!.!.six months or so after I quit eating poultry, I became a vegetarian and my parents were fine with it--I sort of think having the chickens around affected them too, though not enough to quit eating it!.

I became vegan about a year after that and plan to stay that way forever!.

As for health benefits, well my (twin) sister was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes!. She mentioned to her doctor that her brother doesn't eat meat, and the doctor pretty much sang the benefits of a vegetarian diet for people hoping to ward off diabetes!. So now she's thinking about becoming a vegetarian, though she's actually rather reluctant because she likes meat so much!. My health's been fine!.

That's my story!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
