Why don't Vegetarians become Vegan?!

Question: Why don't Vegetarians become Vegan!?
I think if they are out there to make a difference with animals and such, why not go the whole way!?
Im not saying vegans are in anyway superior and vegetarians is better than nothing since meat is the main problem!.
However dairy cows and egg laying hens undergo just as much pain and torment!. Most of the meat your not eating is the dead bodies of the cows that couldn't produce anymore milk, the milk which you are drinking!. Plus milk, cheese, butter, can you get any more unatural!? at least eating meat is "normal" but stealing milk from baby cows isn't!. The whole "calcium" thing is a lie!. You get more calcium from broccoli than milk, plus in milk there is pus, yes pus >!.< the poor over milked, ill cows get mastitis and their udders get swollen and infected and pussy!. Anyways im not going to get too much into it, you do your research!.

Im just saying what compels you to not eat meat or gelatin but you still drink milk and eat cheese!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

First off, Just Some Dude is wrong!. There was an independent study performed a couple years back that tested the cleanliness of milk produced across the US!. About 17 states had a puss/blood content that was so high it would have failed the tests that European milk is supposed to pass!. In other words, it would have been too dirty to export, yet the American government thinks it just fine for its citizens to drink!. Ice, you're right!.

At any rate, I'm a vegan now and I can speak from a vegetarian standpoint!. I was one for 5 years before turning vegan in January of this year!. Shortly after becoming vegetarian, I stopped drinking milk and went to soy milk!. I stopped eating eggs plain (but I still used them in baking) and I continued to eat cheese and honey!. I later quit the eggs!. Up until December of of last year, I was still eating honey and cheese!.
Once I did some research and fully realized the atrocities that happen to dairy cows and bees, I decided to stop!.
I didn't convert earlier for two reasons (neither of which are good ones):
1- Living in Ohio, I was convinced that I couldn't make it as a vegan!. I figured my choices were going to be extremely limited!.
2- I wasn't well-educated about the dairy industry!. I knew about the hormoes in milk!.!.!.figured they were also in yogurt and basically turned a blind eye to cheese b/c I liked the taste!. That was lame of me, I now know!.

I hear what you're saying, but not all people follow this lifestyle b/c of the animals!. I'm sure others think that they are not eating a dead animal and that's good enough for them!. Everyone's journey is different!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well I change every so often from Vegan to vegetarian, but I agree it's really bad that we still eat cheese, dairy, eggs, etc!. But I mean There's a lot of good food out there, and some people don't have all the money in the world to buy supplements to replace these things, they can get expensive you know!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It must be because it's too hard!. Honestly, I have the same question!. Naturally, it's their own choice and they have the right to do so; however, if your concern is animal health/safety, certainly you'd give up eggs and dairy!.

Www@FoodAQ@Com

of course because they like eggs and cheese!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Right or wrong I do not even consider myself a vegetarian!. I have to live with myself and I would not eat meat fish and chicken or any of the by products purely because they are living animals bred to be killed!. That does not mean I foist it on anyone else or say a person is bad because they do!.On a lighter side I love fresh flowers and my husband buys them for me quite often but not without saying he had heard them screaming when they are cut ! As for the production of milk and cheese the public are to blame as were they to pay a little more the cows could go back in the fields and give milk the natural way!. This goes for chickens producing eggs!. I would rather go without and have done at times if I cannot buy free range!. I realise you were not being in any way confrontational but be happy with yourself and let others choose too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In my life I choose to be Vegetarian and not Vegan b/c I still want to eat honey!.!.!.I don't drink milk very often, never liked it!.!.I do eat cheese!.!.don't eat eggs!.!.!.I never really put much thought into not wearing leather, but it is kind of gross!.!.!.and sometimes there is leather in my shoes!.!.!.!.but the point is about EATING!.!.I don't want to EAT a dead animal!.!.!.No dead carcasses in my body!. I think personally that being Vegan is a little too far-fetched for me!.!.!.it's more of an unrealistic way to live!.!.!.!.I have nothing against Vegans at all!.!.!.I commend them for having great willpower!. And I know quite a few Vegans and I will tell you that they seem to think they are superior to everyone!.!.!.even a Vegetarian!. Not that I really care, I live how I want to live and that's all there is to it!. I eat nothing dead!. The cows and chickens go through a lot to get eggs and milk etc!.!.!.but the products didn't come from a dead animal!. It's not the flesh of a rotting carcass!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

because some of us don't feel like it!.
or because some think it's too hard, etc!.
Some, like me, have major reasons, like family background, frequent traveling, adapting to the label-reading, and allergies to soy!.

And maybe it's their choice!. I'm sure not a lot of vegetarians like to be grilled by vegans all the time!.

Now, I'm not saying all vegans are like that!. I personally have nothing against vegans-- a few friends of mine are vegan, as a matter of fact-- but it would just be nice if once in a while we'd get a break from questions like this!.

I do avoid eggs in their pure form, and I replace cow's milk with soy milk, but I can't call myself vegan because I consume foods with these ingredients in them and also wear some animal-derived clothing, like wool--which I try to avoid-- and others (no leather or fur, though)!.

I just hope some people understand that it's nice to spread the word and create awareness about the issue, but getting all up in vegetarian's grills usually ends up in some sort of slight discordiality!.

Peace! Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nice rant!.

Well C, it is just their choice!. If the animal isn't killed to get the product, it is still vegetarian!. On the rare occasions any pus gets in the milk it's all filtered out so that's no more of an issue than your broccoli that's been in the field marinating in cow crap for months on end!.

"Most of the meat your not eating is the dead bodies of the cows that couldn't produce anymore milk"---inaccurate!.

Hellinore--please post a link to your claim so that we can all see who funded this "independent" study!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was a Vegetarian for 11 years and have recently become a Vegan!. I am only 22 years old so I change my diet pretty young, when all there was to me in the world was french fries!. I ended up getting really sick and it wasn't a good thing!. Over the years as I matured I became a great Vegetarian! Weighing on 92 lbs!. my doctor recommended I not cut out dairy until I was very educated on what vitamins my body would be lacking and what foods I planned on substituting in my diet!. I had blood work done and found out I was anemic!.!.!. so I now take a few different vitamins and have found ways that work great for me to fill in the gaps of taking meat out of your diet!. It is wonderful!.

Back to you question!.!.!. everyone is different!. Maybe some people aren't educated on how animals are harmed, maybe they are doing it for health reasons and don't think that being Vegan is necessary!. I guess everyone is different!. But I think that Vegan is the way to be!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was vegetarian for a few years before becoming vegan!. I thought veganism was too extreme and that vegetarianism was good enough!. My hands were clean, I wasn't responsible for killing animals!.

It wasn't until I learned more about what happens during the breeding of egg laying chickens and milk producing cows that I realized I was still contributing towards the death of male chicks and male cows!. (The male chicks are simply discarded, thrown in the trash to suffocate, male cows become veal!.!.!. VEAL!) There isn't a lot of demand for bulls or roosters, so they end up being killed!. For every egg laying hen, or dairy cow, there's probably a male that was killed!.

By drinking milk, I realized I was creating more veal calves!. Even some meat orders cringe at eating veal, I certainly wanted no part in it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
