Okay here is a question for you Vegans/Vegetarians?!
I have 3 friends that are vegetarian, one of them is vegan!. I respect what they eat and they respect that I want to eat meat!. All I see on here is how so many people are trying to turn non-vegetarians into vegetarians!. If we respect that you choose to be vegetarian, why can't you respect that we meat eaters choose to eat meat!? No facts in the world is going to stop me from eating meat, and especially pushing PETA on us is not going to make us change our minds any sooner, since most of PETA are whack jobs (I am not saying all so don't jump down my throat)!. So why can't you respect our choices if we respect yours!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
You make a good point! I don't think anyone should try and shove thier beliefs down anybody else's throats, be it eating preferences, religious choices or just opinions in general!.
I'm vegetarian and I would never try to guilt my friends into not eating meat or criticize them for thier own personal choices, just as I expect that will return the favour to me!.
However, I am against animal cruelty and I will inform my friends if a particular company is notorious for inhumanly killing animals!. I give them the facts and they can make thier own decisions from there!. also if they ask me why I'm a vegetarian then I don't hesitate to inform them why I am!.
So, I do respect your choice to eat meat!. Is that my choice!? No!. But if you will respect my decision not to and listen- not necessarily act upon- what I have to say if you ask me for my opinion, then I completely respect you!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're right, I don't have a right to complain about what you eat!.
However, I do have a right to be angry with people who choose to eat something that is produced through a process resulting in ecological destruction of unbelievable magnitude!.
It is YOUR body!.!.!.but it is OUR planet (and the planet of OUR children), and I will not sit down and shut up while people choose to destroy it through non-sustainable agricultural practices - particularly CAFO's (where most meat comes from)!.
I agree, the production of meat is not the only agriculture that needs reform, but the damage it causes is of enormous proportions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My family is vegetarian, but we often serve meat (prepared by other people) whenever we have a party!. We don't push our lifestyle onto others, and other than some good-natured teasing from a few of my friends, they respect our choice!. If anyone is trying to push something on you, whether it be religion, politics or diet, chances are they are just trying to wind you up to get a reaction!.
By the way, I ate meat for 35 years, and probably ate my weight in steak every year, so never say never :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because according to them, we are doing something wrong (while they have fixed it), eating meat is bad to them (no idea why), and we eat meat freely, so us = bad!. Call it elitism or whatever you want, but it comes down to that even if they don't think so/realize it!.

You got it backwards what I see more of is meat eaters trashing vegetarians and vegans! I'm a vegetarian and I'm not trying to change any meat eaters habits! I have some friends who are meat eaters! I'm vegetarian cause meat was clogging my arteries! (I was a meat eater for about 27 years!) For me I'm healthier not eating meat!Www@FoodAQ@Com
sorry i'm not vegetarian/vegan, but i agree with you! especially the part about peta!. i feel they go overboard!. according to their site, beer is better than milk and your mom kills animals!. yeah, right! my mom doesn't even wear fur!Www@FoodAQ@Com
I can't respect people who choose to eat unhealthy products derived from dead and tortured animals, I'm sorry!.
Our choices are our own to make so long as those actions affect ourselves and no one else!. Sentient creatures ARE SOMEONE ELSE!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some do!. Some don't!.
Just like some meat eaters like yourself accept that we are vegetarian, and others don't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, a couple things!. You don't have to come into this section or open the questions regarding veg*nism and certainly don't have to come into the V&V section talking about meat and to complain about how we invade your space!. =]
Most of the questions we answer are for those asking how to transition or looking for clarification while the rest are from those meat-eaters who come in to taunt, mock and try to get us to change our diets and we even have several meat-eaters who hang out here and have for months!.
What's missing in the free-choice thing is that no one is asking the animals what their preference is!. Have you had the cow, pig, chicken, turkey, duck, fish jump on your plate and hand you a fork!?
The other thing is that the current methods of growing meat in the United States especially but now all over the world are cruel and destructive to more than just the animals and environment!.
At the very least it would be cool if you were a thoughtful and informed eater having found out the truth by delving into the subject beyond the propaganda the meat, egg and dairy industry offers up!.

BTW how much older could your grandparents of lived to be (and healthier at that so enjoying it more) if they'd been veg*n!?
http://www!.pcrm!.org/health/veginfo/vsk/v!.!.!.
But never-the-less, the way meat is produced today is not how it was even a decade ago and certainly not 50 years ago!. Now it's full of antibiotics, hormones, arsenic, and many more including pesticides and fungicides -- since they are grown so closely together and fed garbage, each other, stale m&ms and potato chips among many other awful things including chicken litter!. Ick!

How am I making vegetarians bad!?
You asked a question and I answered it!. Have you even checked the links or just rated me down because I'm not mollycoddling you and saying you are great to even speak to us!?
Again, if you are a thoughtful eater and actually have a clue what goes into what you put in your mouth rather than just argue with me then I have less of a "beef" with your choices!.
But you asked the question about why we don't respect you and about all you see on here (blaming us) and that "most" of PETA are whack jobs yet I doubt you know more than a few at best let alone all of them to be able to make that claim!.
I gave you my take on it!.
You might ask yourself though why you're so defensive over my answer despite not giving it much time to digest (so-to-speak)

Do you want the truth or to be congratulated in your choice of resisting intelligence!?

And yes, you do get to come in here (I've no problem with that) but so do I and you get the answers to what you ask that you get!. Sorry I didn't give you what you were looking for!. I thought you were genuine in really wanting to know (my mistake) and I thought I was respectful in my answer!.

this is the V&V section, what do you expect !?
Having participated in this forum for 2!.5 years i can accurately tell you that the majority of hateful or "persuasive" rants in this section are from meat-eaters having a go at V&V!.
Your rant just added to the mire of nonsense posted here
Would you go into a religious forum and wonder why the majority are religous !?
Yahoo ANSWERS is (was) supposed to be a Q&A site, not an opinion site!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegetarian, and the only time I say anything like that is when meat eaters get on my case for being vege!.
I get it aaallll the time, people telling me its unhealthy, people telling me it doesn't matter, it's stupid, meat is tasty, it doesn't make sense, insults, OMG i get so much crap for it!. Even if I just go to a restraunt and ask the waiter if they serve boca burgers they get all "what!? you don't eat meat!? why not!? it's so good, that's weird" wtf!.
I agree people should respect other people's choices, especially when it it comes to what they themselves are putting into their own body! Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a vegetarian and all my family and friends choose to eat meat, I respect them and they respect me, I don't shove anything down their throats, but if they ask why I am happy to provide them with information!.
I don't support PETA, whilst I agree with them I don't like how they go about getting things done, they are too extreme!.
I think everyone should have the right to decide what they will and won't eat without being berated and belittled or called a hypocrite because they made their own decisions!.
In this world you will find non-respectful vegetarians/vegans just as you'd find people who try to push meat on vegans/vegetarians but we aren't all like that!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been vegetarian for about 3 years and initially when I began I tried to force everyone I knew to be vegetarian and I insulted the fact that they ate meat!. And then I thought, I LOVE and respect nature, and there is a PLETHORA of distinct animals that eat meat and kill other animals in order to feed themselves!. Why should I accept this from animals and not from humans!? There are always vegetarians that try to instill their lifestyles to other!. I believe they do this because (let's admit it) following vegetarianism is a relatively healthy way of life (decreases risk of heart disease and obesity) and just like some very religious person, they want others to "see the light"!.
