Do People Really Think Being a Vegetarian is Healthy?!

Question: Do People Really Think Being a Vegetarian is Healthy!?
Lean meat is one of the healthiest sources of complete protein with a high biological value!. I can understand why one would think highly processed meat sold in stores today is unhealthy though!. But not all meat is unhealthy!. Vegetarian diets bring absolutely no benefits!. Why do people think it's healthy!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
i know right!
i could never be a vegetarian
id look like a white ethiopian child that hasnt eaten in like a year

you just dont get enough calories
or protein
or amino acids
or any of that ****Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some people do because they want to lose weight and think this is a good way to do it, however you can consume a lot of calories from starchy carbs like rice, beans, lentils, barley, etc!.!.!.and never lose weight!. The most part of vegetarians do it because they can't stand the meat industry and some cruel practices they actually do!. I think it's more of a protest lifestyle than a healthy lifestyle!.

However I think today is possible to be a vegetarian and be a bodybuilder at the same time, i know that there is no complete protein from a single source except from meat but most vegetarian bodybuilders are lacto-ovo so they can complete the amino-acid profile with eggs and milk and to complete the amount of protein grams they eat, get high quality protein powders like Whey protein with the best biological value!. Of course you will need some supplements and even vegetarian enzymes to handle that!. Some veggies are very hard to digest in big quantities actually!.

By the way Bill Pearl won the former Mr!. Universe in 1971, 3 years later after giving up meat!. I'm not saying bodybuilders should be vegetarian but it's possible to build muscle in a vegetarian diet with LOTS of supplements, however i do think that it would take longer than omnivorous bodybuilders (if they're not on steroids of course lol)!.

One final word!. Our digestive system is designed to process vegetables, fruits, meat, grains etc!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. and to me it makes sense to be omnivorous, that's the way we evolved!.

However i respect vegetarian people, i don't think the meat industry is civilized and it should evolve into new practices but i will never give up meat, it has more benefits than drawbacks to me!. If you want to be a vegetarian it's your choice and it's completely respectable!.

Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, I do!. Personal experience, research, etc!.

Lean, organic meat can be healthy if not eaten in excess!. But just because something CAN be part of a healthy diet does not mean that a diet is unhealthy if it lacks it!. Take blueberries, for example!. They're great for you!. They're a superfood!. But someone isn't unhealthy simply because they don't eat them!.

A diet can be healthy either way!. The typical vegetarian diet is healthier than the typical diet including meat (at least in North America)!. This isn't just because of the meat, probably!. Most North Americans wind up getting more animal-based proteins and fats than they actually need (by quite a bit)!. As I'm sure you know, too much fat and protein can be bad for your health!. Vegetarians have less of a problem because they don't eat as much of it!. (Of course, there are exceptions!.)

Vegetarians also generally have better health habits than non-vegetarians!. This could be because they want to be sure they're eating right to get all of their nutrients!. It could also be that they became vegetarian because of a desire to be more healthful!. (What came first, the chicken or the egg!?)

Basically, I certainly believe that your diet is probably just fine!. But don't assume that mine isn't simply because it isn't yours!. Statistics are on my side!.

Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ok so yes like you said there is some meat out there that is not bad for you!. But you can get all the same nutrients from vegetable sources, things like soy are also really good sources of protein and are a vegetable (well a bean really)!.

While there are people who become vegetarian for mainly health reasons most people don't!. For most its an 'added benefit'!. Ethical vegetarians for example don't care how lean the meat is, they still arent going to eat it because its against their ethics!.

Atheletes require a lot of protein!.!.!.!. but there are some extremely successful athletes who are veggie, for example Carl Lewis is a vegan and I doubt any of us would beat him in a race!.

The point you made about doctors reccommending meat!.!.!.!. its because of the culture we grow up in!. It is 'normal' to eat meat and get your protein that way!. But say you went to the doctor because you were allergic to meat (just using this as an example) then I'm sure they could come up with many other sources of protein!. The essential amino acids don't need to come from one source a combination of sources is just fine!. So meat is not essential for any diet!.

So overall the reason people say that a vegetarian diet is healthier is because most people don't eat that lean meat you are talking about, they eat the processed stuff!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

meat also provides a very important vitamin B12 which keeps your brain from deteriorating and can only be found in meat (nowhere else)!.

Meat definitely isn't unhealthy in and of itself, but the argument could be made that slaughter houses and mass slaughter of animals isn't particularily!.!.!. not so much healthy as much as sanitary!. In all honesty, the most sanitary way of eating meat would be to keep the animals and slaughter them ourselves which most aren't willing to do!. Many also have something agains't the moral and ethical implications mass slaughter and production brings to the table!. Many of the animals are kept in confined spaces, and in close proximity to their own excriment!. It's disgusting to say the least!. Ground meats are mass produced and distributed, and it has been publically stated that when you are eating ground (beef specifically), you could be eating small parts of hundreds of different cows!. So, although the sanitation laws have changed dramatically for the better!. It is by no means 'healthy' in my opinion!. I prefer free range chicken, turkey, and fish if anything!. But i do eat pork, and beef!. So!.!.!.!. i guess what i'm saying is that i can see where vegitarians are coming from!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

"Lean meat is one of the healthiest sources of complete protein with a high biological value!."

You have no evidence supporting that lean meat is healthier than soy, quinoa, or any other vegetarian source of complete protein!. You also do not make it clear what you mean by "high biological value"!.

"I can understand why one would think highly processed meat sold in stores today is unhealthy though!."

I agree, highly processed meats are worse for you than less processed meats!.

"But not all meat is unhealthy!."

Agreed, some meat in moderation can be healthy as part of a balanced diet!.

"Vegetarian diets bring absolutely no benefits!."

You are mistaken!. The American Dietetic Association's position on vegetarian diets : "!.!.!.appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases!."[1] American Heart Association's position on vegetarian diets : "Many studies have shown that vegetarians seem to have a lower risk of obesity, coronary heart disease (which causes heart attack), high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and some forms of cancer!. Vegetarian diets can be healthful and nutritionally sound if they’re carefully planned to include essential nutrients!."[2]

"Why do people think it's healthy!?"
I think it's healthy because scientific evidence says it is!. I'm not saying vegetarians are necessarily always healthier than meat eaters, I'm just saying that a well-planned vegetarian diet is healthy, provides all that our bodies need, and provides many health benefits that one may not get from a diet that includes meat!.

Edit:
You seem to have a very strong opinion about vegetarianism!. I say "opinion" because you have yet to provide any factual evidence supporting your claims!. Just saying "a lot of scientific evidence is against it too" is not valid supporting evidence!. You can argue all you want about why you think vegetarianism is bad, but the fact remains that a vegetarian diet can provide people with sufficient amounts all the necessary vitamins/nutrients (including protein, which you seem to think we need a ton of), is a perfectly healthy diet choice for anybody, and offers many health benefits over a diet that includes meat!. As for the biological value of protein, sure the human body typically can absorb slightly more protein from meat, but getting enough protein is not an issue at all for people in developed countries!. For bodybuilders and other people who desire very high amounts of protein, isolated proteins (usually from wheat) made in labs are the most efficient!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

meat can be part of a healthy diet eaten in moderation but it is absolutly not nessisary to maintain optimal health
and you said "Vegetarian diets bring absolutely no benefits"
it does it bennifits the animals

and i honestly dont care wether its healthy or not im a vegetarian because i just dont like the way it tastes or smells or the texture and the fact that its animal flesh

Humans are also natural Herbivores!!

Read The China Study by T!. Colin Campbell!. If we all adopted a whole foods, plant-based diet we would wipe out cancer, heart disease, and diabetes and all be a healthy weight!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I really dont care about the benefits about being vegetarian, what matters is not eating animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

idk i think being vegetarian is pretty ridiculous!. i mean theres nothing wrong with it!. i like to call myself a "meat-itarian" lolWww@FoodAQ@Com

It is indisputable that a vegetarian diet can be perfectly healthy!. Is it the only healthy choice!? Of course not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, lean meat can be healthy if enjoyed in moderation!. I prefer to enjoy a diet made up of carrots!. Carrots are good and good for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe the fastest way to get protein!. but veggies provide protein!. and veggies are healthier than meat, thus veggies are a healthy source of protein!.

how does a vegetarian diet provide no benefits!? what benefits does meat provide that veggies can't!?

veggies don't have the side effects of causing clogged arteries, heart attack, strokes!.!.!.

ps!. why does it matter to you what i eat!? i don't attack a person eating junkfood!. its not my business what others eat!. It's just FOOD!Www@FoodAQ@Com

how can you ASK a question then say this "Don't try to convince me, I've done my research!.!."

Meat may be healthy, but it appears it does nothing for your logic or reasoning skills!.

I'm guessing ( feel free to correct me ) that your "research" ammoutns to surfing the web, right !?

There is so much wrong with your additional comments thats its really not worth bothering with you!. It would be like trying to start a car with no engineWww@FoodAQ@Com

For you to make this statement means you've done zip reseach!.
Minerals are found in the ground, so any plant will have those minerals!.
Look around you and see what the fatties are eating!.!.!.not veggies!.

Edit: I eat veggies and I look hot!. :P

Edit: As Francesca said: Veggie protein is healthier!. The high meat protein is well known in the health circles (natural), to give you all kinds of diseases!. Look at Christines answer!. That's fact!. also check out: http://notmilk!.com/Www@FoodAQ@Com

BU!.!.!.BUT MEAT MAKES YOU FAT!!!

I think it's a comfort thing, like people feel bad about eating something that's human-like/moves around and can look at you, plants/roots just kinda sit there without doing anything so people don't feel bad I guess!? Like, kick a dog and everyone hates you, kick a plant, no one cares!?

Idk, all/most of the athletes in the top physical condition in the world eat a ton of meat, but I guess some book by some doctor > that to vegos!.

I don't think it's the optimal lifestyle for physical health, but as long as they get enough protein, I guess I don't really have anything wrong with it!. The preachy "I'm saving the earth from you, you animal-eating scumbag" kind can kindly hop off peta's balls though!.

also, haha yamster, "Why do people think it's healthy"!.!.!."Dont try to convince me" lolol!.

edit:
haha neither am I, no way I can live without meat lol

but all the people saying that "your bad because you're eating animal flesh", plants are living-breathing-flesh having- beings (hey, so are animals!)!.!.!.but they don't have sad doe-eyes to look at you, so yea, enjoy your guit-free conscienceWww@FoodAQ@Com

Meat is a better source of protein than beans, nuts, and seeds are!. IF YOUR TALKING ABOUT A DOG,CAT,LION,TIGER,WOLF, etc etc!.

Omnivores are fine, as long as meat does not make up more than 15% of their overall diet!. Most of your protein should come from beans, nuts and seeds!. Some can come from grass-fed meats and organic yogurt!. And you should eat fresh fruits(mostly blue fruits) and vegetables(mainly leafy greens, kale, and broccoli) in abundance!.

Yes I agree not all meat is unhealthy, try to avoid high amounts of processed meats(deli ham,hot dogs)cheese, red meats(pork included),and chicken, and eat more wild caught salmon and low-fat organic dairy products(besides cheese)Www@FoodAQ@Com
