How to eat healthy and be vegan / vegetarian?!
I'm interested in changing my diet so that it's vegan or at least vegetarian!. I'm doing it mainly because of how I feel about the inhumane way animals are treated!. I should have done it a long time ago!.
I believe if we reduce the demand on products that depend on the inhumane treatment of animals one by one, we can make a difference!. I've pretty much stopped eating beef and eggs altogether, simply because it is not healthy with regard to cholesterol!. What should I do to make up for not eating chicken, turkey, pork, and fish!? Should I take supplements!? Are there other foods that I can eat in place of these!?
also, I've started drinking more soy based products, and eating ice cream made from soy!. I don't feel as badly about drinking milk, or eating cheese or eggs - from the standpoint of animal abuse, because it seems like if the demand is high enough for these products, then animals will be farmed/valued for dairy benefits instead of to be mutilated and slaughtered!. Is my logic here flawed!?
Thanks in advance for your input and recommendations!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lastly, the dairy and egg industries do not save the lives of animals- quite the opposite!.
Cows have to be impregnated to give milk, just like people!. If the resulting calf is male, it is sold for veal!. After four or five years, when the milk runs out, the cow is slaughtered and usually sold for pet food!.

With regard to eggs, the treatment of most chickens is repulsive!. Only two percent of hens are truly "free-range" and "cage-free!."

An inherent problem with all egg production, whether free-range or battery-caged, is the disposal of unwanted male chicks!. Because male chicks don't lay eggs and don't grow fast enough to be raised profitably for meat, they are deemed useless except for a few used as studs!. The rest will be killed by the cheapest means available, usually by suffocation in plastic trash bags or being tossed (while living) into a grinder!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you decide to go on a vegan diet for health or for compassionate reasons, you need to know the list of vegan foods that you can eat!. But you also need to be aware of the list of foods that you can no longer eat because they use animal products, even in a minute fashion!. Please be sure to talk to your doctor before switching to eating only a list of vegan foods!.
The No-Nos
In order to eat a vegan diet, you can no longer eat anything made with honey or dairy products!. You also can't eat anything made with eggs or powdered bone or powdered animal organs!. This means that you have to check the ingredients of everything you plan on putting into your mouth!.
Even gelatin is no longer allowed!. It's made from the bones, skins and tendons of animals (usually cows)!. There are some products marketed as "vegan gelatin", but they are made with other products, like seaweed, that mimic gelatin!. Kosher gelatin does not count as vegan gelatin!.
For example, milk chocolate is no longer allowed!. But dark chocolate is allowed on the list of vegan foods as long as eggs or butter haven't been added!. Cocoa butter isn't the same as butter from cow's milk!. It's made entirely from oils of the cacao bean!.
The Yeses
The list of vegan foods that you are allowed to eat is a lot longer than the list of foods that you can no longer eat!. It might not seem that way at first because you have been in the habit of only eating certain kinds of foods!. You can eat any kind of nut, bean, grain, fruit and vegetable!. That's a whole lot!
You can use vegetable oils and spices to make new flavor combinations!. Beans and grains come in a surprising array of textures!. If you have a food processor, you can combine vegetables, grains, nuts and beans to make a meatloaf-like dish!. By draining tofu well and marinating it before cooking, you can get a very tasty alternative to crumbled hamburger!.
There are two products that are approved for vegans that you can find at any American supermarket!. These are Bac-O's, which aren't made with any bacon or meat!. They are actually made of soy!. Another vegan American kitchen pantry staple is Manwich, a sauce traditionally for sloppy joes, that doesn't have any trace of animal products in it!.

i love that youve decided to do this [:
you can buy meat substitutes which contain protein and if you think about it, there are lots of meals which dont involve meat, dairy or fish and with most you can replace the meat or whatever with a substitute or just leave it out all together!.
for vitamins and all that; buy a multi vitamin and separate ones if necessary!.
if youre having a drastic change in diet you should consult your doctor or a nutritionist but if you do it gradually i dont think theres any need [:
good luck [x
2ND COMMENT: it does make a difference, vegetarians/vegans save so many animals so stfu [: and if you eat fish youre not even a vegetarian, never mind vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
