Question: If I am a vegetarian, then should i eat foods with gelatin in them!?
I would like your opinion!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Gelatin is definitely NOT vegetarian!. It's made from the bones, hides, and ligaments of slaughtered animals!. Pretty gross, huh!? But fear not, there are substitutes!

If you like Jello, there are vegetarian desserts that are similar!.

If you like gummy candies, check out Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish, both of which are vegan!. Edward & Sons, a natural foods company, also makes vegan gummy candies!.

If you like Starburst fruit chews, Mamba makes vegan fruit chews!. I've seen them at a 7-11 and at Target!.

If you like Altoids, there are tons of mints out there!. Newman's Own makes some decent mints, as does VerMints!. They're not as strong as Altoids, but you'll be able to taste the flavor of the mint instead of burning your tongue off!.

If you like Skittles, well, you're out of luck!.

Check labels, as gelatin appears in the most unlikely of places including some brands of yogurt!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you eat gelatin, you're not a vegetarian!. If you're a vegetarian, you don't eat gelatin!. "Should" isn't really relevant!.

It isn't that difficult to avoid gelatin, really!. There are only a few things that I used to eat that I don't eat anymore (because of the gelatin)!. The only ones that I really miss are gummy candies!. Swedish Fish are similar and can often take the place (usually they're made without gelatin)!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

No!. b/c its from slaughterhouses so you are still eating parts from animals!. i dont think it would be considered a by product b/c it comes straight from the animal!.

however!. if you did eat gelatin i wouldn't say you are an omnivore instead of a vegetarian but i would say a not-so-strict vegetarian!.

(almost all gelatin is from animals!. i have never heard of one that wasn't!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

it depends on the foods!. there is such a thing as vegetarian gelatin, and it comes from plants, so it's plant based and not animal based so its totally ok to eat!. if you're not willing to give up on the gelatin, its not a big deal, because the quantity of gelatin is so small and almost insignificant!. plus you're already helping the environment so much by not eating meat and stuff!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are few gelatins that are not from animals, I know a gummy bear company that has animal based gelatin!. But most are from intestines, hooves, bones, multiple other gross things!. It is technically meat!. If you do eat it!.!.!.I would call you a not strict vegetarian(Like the other person said!.) But not really an omnivore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you're a vegetarian, then by definition you don't eat foods with gelatin in them!. If you do willingly and knowingly eat foods with gelatin in them, then you are not a vegetarian!. What difference does it make if it's flesh, hides, or bones!? It's all dead animal parts!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are vegan substitutes for those foods-look at your local health food store!.
However, what you choose to eat or not eat is just that-your choice!. Don't worry about labels, be guided by your sense of what's right for you!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, you shouldn't if you are a vegetarian!. Gelatin is made from random animal parts, bones, ligaments, cartiledge, etc!. Vegetarians don't eat dead animal partsWww@FoodAQ@Com

Gelatin (and food containing gelatin) are not vegetarian, period!. Being vegetarian isn't about being a martyr; it's about doing what's right in the first place!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians stay away from gelatin!. It comes from bones of animals, so an animal has to die in order for the gelatin to get into your food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try Natural Desserts - it's an excellent vegan product!.

I will never eat animal-gelatin - it's gross!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some gelatin is made frow cow bones like Jello!. If you do make sure it is bone free :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
