Answers:
Apple trees aren't really something where you can just plant seeds and get a good tree!. It's just not how it works because of the way they are produced!. Mixbreeds usually just don't produce very well, and that's exactly what you'll get with most apples!. also, as was already mentioned, many apples are bred so their seeds are sterile!.

The majority of the trees you see at orchards and such are produced by cutting propagation!. Which means one tree is made by sprouting a branch of an existing tree or by grafting a branch of an existing tree to an already established root stock!. That way, you know you have an exact genetic copy of the original tree!. It's actually a very interesting process, but it takes quite a bit of know-how!. I'm sure you could find info if you google "grafting apple trees"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well most apple seeds from apples purchased in stores have been genetically altered so that there seeds wont sprout!. but if its an seed from a store or a good one from another "natural" tree than you need to start the tree indoors or in a greenhouse around december and keep it well watered,!. Plant the tree outdoors after your last frost in the spring and it could be a few years before you get your first apples, depending on the climate it could be several years!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can try planting them in the spring, but it will be many years before you get any fruit!. Why not just buy a couple apple trees at your local nursery next spring!.

One way to get mixed breed apples is to graft the branch of one type of apple tree onto the trunk of another type!. I'm willing to bet the apple you ate was a Mix breed apple, so it's seed will not produce the same quality of apple!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In the Spring is when people do planting unless your in a tropical area!. If you need info on different types of apples do go to the library and get a book and you will learn all about this!. May get some info by also doing a web search!. Have you taken the time to try that!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can try sprouting them in a small container inside first to see if they will indeed grow!. Granny Smiths need a long hot summer to do well so keep that in mind!.!.!.!.not knowing where you live!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Probably in the spring in a greenhouse about ten years before you actually want fruit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
