When people ask you why you're vegan, what do you say?!

Question: When people ask you why you're vegan, what do you say!?
I know all the reasons, and I'm quite secure in my veganism!. But when people ask me why I'm vegan, I'm not sure what to say!. I don't want to get all preachy with people I don't know and whom I know won't care much!. But at the same time I want people to get that this is serious and not just a gimmick or something!.
What do you say when people ask you why!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I tell them that i am vegan for 3 reasons: I love my body, I love animals, and I love my planet!.
Most people just say "Oh!.!.!.ok" and nod a bit after that!. A few will ask how it affects those, mainly the whole planet thing since most people do not get the negative environmental impact that the whole meat and dairy thing has on the planet!.
I actually had one friend try to tell me that growing all of those plants is worse than all of the cow farts!.!.!. yeah!.!.!. I know!.!.!. weird!.
And then some people go on to say that if we didn't eat those animals they would take over the world!. Then I remind them that many of those animals are not only bred just for food but also genetically altered for it (like way overweight cattle or featherless chickens) and would never exist or survive otherwise!.
When someone tries to say that it can't be good for me, I remind them of the protein content and such in soy products, which I LOVE!. And how it is a much healthier way to get those things!.
Pretty much everyone gets the loving animals part!.

I get uncomfortable when people ask me!. Not because I don't want to answer and share what I believe but because most of the time is seems like a challenge!. People are so defensive ( even when they are the ones asking) about other peoples veganism!. For a long time I just told people that it was personal and that I didn't want to have discussions about it!. If I am one on one with someone I feel a bit more comfortable discussing my choices!. I often explain being veg by saying that it is my choice, if people challenge me using their infinite reasons why eating meat is so much better etc!.!.!.!. I just walk away from the conversation!. It seems so weird to me how offended people get when they find out your are a vegetarian!. People seem to think that you are super-judging them!.!.!.it must be the meat!
It is important not to get preachy with people either!. Let them know your reasons and say it is your personal choice!. If someone is really giving me a hard time and I can't walk away I sometimes I ask why they eat meat!? They often have a hard time answering, it ususally makes people angry and I have a laugh at how silly it all is!. People shouldn't have to defend their choices so much when vegans aren't hurting anyone or anything!.
Good Luck with the questions!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would talk about how meat industries treat their animals horribly and waste more energy to maintain the animals!. also, I would add that the thought of eating meat is disgusting!. But that's my personal thought!. You should express your own reasons!.

However, if you wish not to annoy others, don't make it sound like a moral agenda that everyone should follow!. Make it sound like personal decision!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I feel the same way!. Most of the time I try not to sound like a babbling fool!. I usually just say because of animals because that is a big reason why!. I don't really feel the need to explain my decisions to people in too much detail, especially people I don't even know very well!. And plus I don't wanna sound all preachy like you said!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i feel exactly the same way!.
i want to tell people about what they are eating and how bad it is etc etc
but no matter how i approach it, i end up pissing somebody off!. i guess closed minded people with stay closed minded

but pretty much what i say to ppl is that im vegan because i cannot justify killing another living thing, just to consume it, when its not necessaryWww@FoodAQ@Com

I would simply say, "It is a healthy, life choice!" If they want to further discuss it, then I will slowly try to "educate" them on the virtues of being a vegan, etc!. etc!.

Good luck to you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not a vegan,so I guess I have no right to tell you, but I'd just tell then you're uncomfortable with digesting living flesh!. Ya' know!? :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would like to give a simple answer "for healthy reason"
instead of some other reason that many people don't understand!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well there is no reason to be a vegan unless you believe in those reasons!. so i can only give you those simple explanationsWww@FoodAQ@Com
