Are all non-vegetarians meat eaters because they CHOOSE to be oblivious?!
Ok here is something I just DO NOT understand! I became a vegetarian then vegan starting in July of this year!. I don't think its right that we can kill all of these animals, yet if someone did that to a dog/cat & then ate them they would go to jail!.!.!.
Anyways since becoming one I have asked several of my friends/family to consider switching!. They all give these reasons anything from its natures way, to the bible said so!. Ok I understand this!. Yet not ONE person would look at a book/video of an animal slaughter!.
So if you can't physically watch an animal being "processed" for food, why should you eat it!? I don't think everyone should be vegetarians!. I just think if you have your reasons you shouldn't CHOOSE to ignore the facts!. I'd really like to hear others thoughts on this, (no jerks!.!.!.) Thanks everyone!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your choice and complaint is derived from moral obligation!. Personally I think morals are derived from culture and environmental stimulus!. The American culture highly values domesticated animals!. These animals supply satisfaction and other functions - a dog/cat is part of the family and a horse can produce work!. For example, before horses were used as transportations, they were used for meat!. In other countries where dogs/cats are not typical pets but pests, they are part of a food source!. I personally feel that the value of life is dependent on relationship the human and the animal holds!. Humans typically do not have an emotional connection with cows, pigs, and chickens and therefore they are eaten!.
We cannot watch animals be processed because our fear of death!. The act of seeing an animal die reminds us of our mortality!. also, we are conditioned to admire cleanliness and avoid blood!. There might be more reasons to refrain from seeing processed food - but I think these are key issues!.
Other cultures do watch food be processed!. They continue to eat the meat!. Americans/Europeans are not therefore feel uncomfortable!.
My moral alignment is to try to limit the amount of pain and suffering ALL animals feel!. I find death natural and a part of life!. However, I am against how huge meat farmers handle their animals while living!. There is nothing natural on how we get our hormone pumped meat!. I'm very happy with a non-meat diet and no reason to force animals to suffer for my food!. If humanistic farming was more common, I wouldn't mind eating the meat!. The animals benefit when the farmers care!. It is provided with a comfy life (assuming humane conditions) until it's death!.
It just my view points to your question!. I hope it didn't offend!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're question made me think!. I'm also a vegetarian!. I think no one in the world would ever like to see and animal slaughtered, unless your a horrible cruel person!. I just think some people think its the easiest way to get there protein and don't really think about what happened to the animal!. I'm glad that your a vegan and im very happy im vegetarian but you cant get everyone to follow your ways!. Just let people do what they want!. also in China they do eat dog!. I think it is very cruel!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
i have been through the same thing!.!.!.
i think that ppl just choose not to know!.
they choose to be ignorant so that they wont feel bad about what they eat!.
people dont like change!. if they watch 'meet your meat' they might feel compelled to change form what they were conditioned to think was an ok thing (eating meat)
some ppl like my bf, for example, watch these videos and know what is going into their bodies!.!.!.yet they feel no remorse!. this i dont understand!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I do certainly agree with you!. also I feel like if you are so sure it's natural why aren't you out with your carnivore teeth and your bear claws hunting a deer for dinner instead of going off to the supermarket getting something you didn't have the ability to get yourself!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Have you ever considered that they choose not to watch those videos because they are actually halfway intelligent and want to be able to decide what they do with their bodies for themselves rather than do as they are told by peta!?

Ashley, your question is exactly the same as Nikki's!. If you guys are going to pose the same questions, at least assume that we have the intelligence required to notice a cut & paste!. Change the wording a bit for goodness sake!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's ok to eat cats, just not dogs!.
'Sorry, but most of us just like meat!. If you want to be a vegan, fine, but please allow me to eat what I want!. Ok!?

i don't understand why if you talk about animal cruelty people think you are forcing them to change!. guilty conscience maybe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I live in a farming area, and yes, I have watched and helped prepare chickens, lambs and cows for eating!. I choose to buy my meat from local farmers rather than buy mass-produced meat from the supermarket!. Why eat meat!? We, as a species, evolved into our bigger brains from eating meat in the first place!.!.!.it is easily digestible and the best source of usable protein, especially for children!. I do not drink milk, as I am allergic to it, and I have many family members with legume allergies, so nuts, lentils and pulses are out too!. I do think that factory production methods are cruel, aand if people eat meat they should be eating locally sourced meat that has had free range and proper food!. However, I really do like the taste of it as well!. I grew up a macrobiotic vegetarian, so I understand your point of view!Www@FoodAQ@Com
i also have tried to get a few people to watch the video "meet your meat" with me (i'd already decided to return to vegetarianism when i watched it a few weeks ago), but to no avail!. i think if at least half of the people would watch it, they'd discontinue eating meat, if anything for their own health!. i'm 36 and have been through alot in my life and wish i could change everybody's mind and show them the right paths to go in life and all that but i have also come to the realization that some people just have to learn the hard way and learn it on their own and other people don't really care how they're food arrives in their bodies (a passive and oblivious version as you were talking about), and a select other group of meat eaters and otherwise that love the fact that an innocent breathing creature was senselessly and cruelly murdered (hence- prepared) and may be even proud of the fact that it was their own weapon and hands that took the life that they are now eating!.
i'm still working on becoming a full vegetarian let alone a full vegen (eventually) but i am MUCH more aware of what food goes in my body now!. everyday i try to go out on the web and educate myself more and more on what i can and can't eat (which seems to add up daily) as a vegetarian and am continually surprised at what seemingly innocent things actually contain slaughtered animal that aren't even meat!. i was a vegetarian all through my high school years starting at about 7th or 8th grade (been so long i don't remember, lol) till age 20 (my now late husband talked me into it) and am now glad to have returned and never felt healthier btw!.
For all the years that i was a meat eater, i just tried to trick my mind and forget the fact that an animal died needlessly!. it didn't always work though and i would often times feel extremely guilty for eating what i had (chicken nuggets, hamburger, bacon etc!.) and harm myself for what i had ate!. I hope that i answered your question without boring you too much btw, i just feel so passionate about this cause and i want everyone else that agrees with me to feel as good as i do about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A rather arrogant non-question you have here!. Although tempting, I will not respond in like kind!.
No!. I think most non-vetarians continue to eat meat because we are simply omnivouous by nature!. You made a choice!. Now stop being annoying!.
And I have seen some of those "processing" clips put around by folks like PETA!. I don't know where they're filmed, but that's not how I'd do it!. I generally clean the fish I catch, just before cooking them!. I know how to clean other large and small game, although I haven't!.!.!. like I have the time or space!.
I've seen dog for sale as food!.!.!. or rather bits of dog!.!.!. I didn't eat at that place because I don't want to eat dog!. This is MY choice!. Similarly, I have chosen not to eat horse!.!.!. I'm wierd like that!. But I love every part of the chicken, and am not against people who choose to eat animal bits I choose to forego!.
We are each our own person!. Why some folks can't understand that I don't know!.!.!. they choose to be oblivious, I suppose!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well I really don't watch any animal butchering videos especially if the source is dubious at best (peta sponsored videos for example) but I have watched live slaughtering of animals for meat!. I have even done it myself after hunting them!. So really, for me at least, your rant is meaningless and just plain nonsense!. Besides, why would they watch one!? Because you said so!?!? Ego tripping are we!?
Should not eat meat because won't watch a video!? May I also suggest that unless you have plowed a field, planted your own crops, added manure/fertilizer/whatever lovingly with your own hands, harvested, sorted out the produce yourself and lived the life of abused crop farm workers while earning minimum wage if at all, you should not eat veggies and fruits either!. And I have not even suggested you grind your own soybeans yetWww@FoodAQ@Com
