I'm sure that others will have more to say!. I'm not a vegan but have read quite a bit on vegan diets and concern!. You must make sure you get a complete set of protein!. Meat products contain a complete set; however, most plant food are lacking in one of the dozen proteins!. You should combine protein based food - for example, cereal (grain) and lentils!. Quinoa, however, is complete and extremely high in protein!.
You should also consume B-12 vitamins!. This is essential vitamin that aids blood and nervous system functions!. You can either take supplements or B-12 fortified food!.
Omega-3 fatty acids are harder to come by in a vegan diet!. Though it is not impossible, you must buy food not typical in American cuisine!. Flax seeds are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids!. If you make sure you are supplying your Omega-3 dietary needs, your Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio will be much better than on a typical diet!. (a typical American consume a poor ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6)!.
A heed of warning!. Do not over consume soy products!. Your source of protein should not be derived from mostly soy!. Though eating a little soy daily is fine, eating mostly soy products is not!. the best advice is to try new recipes that are in accordance with your general preference for foods!. in the beginning, i tried to make really difficult recipes that weren't my taste, but now i've found a good balance realizing i generally like american and mexican foods!. here are some general tips from my personal experience and only what has worked for me:
1!. Read all labels, even if it says vegan
2!. Buy vegan kid cookbooks cause they tend to have great easy, quick recipes!. One i bought is called "Better than a peanut butter and jelly"!. It's actually vegetarian but extremely easy to make vegan!.
3!. Peta!.org (no matter what you may think of them) has excellent vegan recipes that are usually easy to make and very tasty
4!. Invest some time into learning how to cook tofu, seitan, or something similar you like!. Try not to eat only faux meats!.
5!. Create your own personal cookbook of meals you enjoy for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, etc!. This will make the transition easier if you have a list of quick, practical meal ideas for your lifestyle!.
6!. Silk is the best soymilk ever!! (lol!.!.just my opinion)
7!. Watch out for morningstar and boca brands because not all of their products are vegan!.

Familiarize yourself with the peta2 website, specifically the "What to Eat" section!. Peta has been a big help to me!. Check out Whole Foods or Trader Joe's stores if you live near any!. They have huge selections of vegan foods!.

basically if u want to be a true vegan just eat lots or raw foods, like vveggires and fruits and nuts, thre are some product that they make that look like meat but arnt like morning star, which is a good brand but its vegitarian not vegan so you have to watch out, the only diff between veg and vegan is that all dairy is cut out with the meat, so you still have the grain the fruits the veggies, just think of life as a food pyramid =]Www@FoodAQ@Com
i'm going vegan too! i'm currently a vegeterian but advice to u is to stick to it!. don't let people discourage u!. don't eat any meat or dairy!. that means NO eggs or bacon with that toast or ice cream!.!.!. a girls' best friend!. lol!. i'm told it's a lot of work to keep it up, i have friends who support me so find ppl like that!.
