First of all, if there are edible animals, there are edible plants!. Animals do not live off of nothing!. This is a totally ridiculous hypothetical and your friend is ridiculous for asking it!.
That being said, you would eat your own rotting feet if you were starving to death!. You would eat your dead neighbor!. When you are actually starving, all bets are off!. Your friend would do exactly the same thing!. You can say to him, "If you were starving on a lifeboat in the middle of the Dead Sea with no hope of rescue and the person in the lifeboat with you got sick and died, would you eat them!?" He may say that he wouldn't, but if the chips were down, he absolutely would!. If the situation really is that desperate, you will act accordingly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am from India!. Your query reminded of a ruler named Prithvi Raj in India who was banished to the deserts!. He was a vegetarian!. He followed the animals!. Many of the animals are actually vegetarians!. He found the trees he could climb and get the leaves the were chewed by the animals!. Then there were al these different types of cactus plants and aloe vera!. In a few days, he learned how to make patties of leaves and even bake these patties over fire!.

I can't honestly say what I would do in a life or death situation!. But at the moment, I'd have to say no!. It would be extremely hard to even consider doing something like that!. Not because I'm a vegetarian - people who eat meat don't all necessarily have the power to kill an animal - but because I don't think I could willingly take the life of another living, conscious thing!.

Of course they would!. That's one of those "talk the talk vs!. walk the walk" questions!. Here in the forum it's easy to say no they wouldn't, but in real life, if they were dying of starvation and they're lives were on the line, they'd eat whatever they could find to keep themselves alive!.
Many here realize that and will tell you that, but some are riding a wave of pride and will tell you that they'd rather die themselves than kill a chicken, as if they expect you to believe it!.

I'm a vegan and very passionate about my choice; however, i would kill an animal if it meant survival!. I always laugh when people ask this because they seem to be missing the point!. The point is not survival, but the point is that this day in age we have more and better choices!. Yes, back in the caveman and pioneer days, they did not have better choices, but today we do!. i'm not a total veg right now, so I would eat something with a face if I were in that situation, but I think strict vegans will answer that they'll never be in that situation, so they don't have to answer!. I'm a vegetarian for my health and because I believe killing another creature simply for the pleasure of having it's flesh slide down my neck is selfish, cruel and totally unnecessary for people in modern times!. Your body eventually goes into survival mode and tricks you into thinking that those kind of things are great!. After going without food for so long, it would eventually be like putting an alcoholic in a room full of beer!.

The obvious answer is that if there were no plant life, there would be no animal life!. A meat-eater would be in exactly the same predicament as a vegetarian - no food source!.
