Are chickens more important than cows!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I used to work at a slaughterhouse back in Oz!.

You would actually be surprised about how many checks and balances were in place!.

Right down to the hiring of Muslim people for the slaughter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Guy, vegans aren't one group of people!. We come from all different walks of life, and we have different views, priorities and opinions on most things!.

Not all vegans then do specifically "target" KFC!. Personally I think KFC is one of many chains that have been slow to afford animals even basic respect and care during the slaughter process, that would be trivial cost wise to implement, but would mean a lot for animals that are involved!.

Reform, for the benefit of humans and animals alike, I think is needed throughout the agriculture and food systems - it's not just limited to one chain or operation!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because other fast food chains are not "just as bad"!. The roughly 1 billion chickens killed each year for KFC's buckets are crammed by the tens of thousands into excrement-filled sheds that stink of ammonia fumes!. The birds’ legs and wings often break because they’re bred to be too top-heavy and because workers carelessly shove them into transport crates and shackles!. Chickens’ throats are slit and the animals are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water to remove their feathers, often while they are still conscious and able to feel pain!. KFC lets frustrated factory-farm and slaughterhouse workers handle live birds, so many of the animals end up being sadistically abused!. At a KFC “Supplier of the Year” slaughterhouse in West Virginia, workers were documented tearing the heads off live birds, spitting tobacco into their eyes, spray-painting their faces, and violently stomping on them!. This was discovered more than two years after KFC promised PETA that it was taking animal welfare seriously!. KFC hides behind its Animal Welfare Advisory Council, even though five members of the council have resigned in frustration!. One of them, Adele Douglass, told the Chicago Tribune that KFC “never had any meetings!. They never asked any advice, and then they touted to the press that they had this animal-welfare advisory committee!. I felt like I was being used!.”Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're right, they are just as bad!. And it's PETA, not all vegans targeting them!.

But I have a theory!. Of the 10 billion animals slaughtered every year in the U!.S!. for food, roughly 9 billion are chickens!. KFC is probably the biggest purchaser of chickens, as they are one of the most popular chicken outlets in the U!.S!. It makes sense to go after them to ask that they demand their suppliers treat the chickens less cruelly, as they have the most pull because they buy more chicken parts than any other chain!.

If the 9 billion number sounds big, think about it: when someone orders a plate of wings, that's a hell of a lot of birds who have to die for that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

KFC got a bad rap for the treatment of the chickens a few years ago and they have never fixed the problem that I know of!. the cows are often better treated and more humanly treated!. chickens are overlooked more because they are grown out of sight in lg sheds Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think it would be because of the massive inhumane slaughter of the chickens!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Please don't group us all into this!. PETA targets KFC, and only a minority of veg*ns belong to PETA!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because PETA told them to!.

"KFC got a bad rap for the treatment of the chickens a few years ago"----KFC doesn't handle live animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because they just regurgitate what PETA feeds them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
