I thought vegans did not exploit animals?!

Question: I thought vegans did not exploit animals!?
I thought veteterians were only concerned with diet by defenition and vegans were concerned with diet, and larger moral issues like the use of animal products other than foods!.

But a top contributor "Hannibal" says that being vegan is just about diet!?

Is this true!? I'm confused now!. I always thought vegans, by definition were concerned about more than just diet!. Or is this top contributor incorrect in her statement!?

"Being vegan just means you don't eat meat, dairy, eggs, or honey!. How you feel about animals isn't related!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
vegan means you don't support any exploitation of animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Donald Watson founded the Vegan Society and coined the term vegan!. The Vegan Society's definition of vegan is:

"A vegan is someone who tries to live without exploiting animals, for the benefit of animals, people and the planet!. Vegans eat a plant-based diet, with nothing coming from animals - no meat, milk, eggs or honey, for example!. A vegan lifestyle also avoids leather, wool, silk and other animal products for clothing or any other purpose!."

By definition veganism has to do with more than just diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegans are concerned with animals!. Like, they dont like to use real animal skins!. For example: Macbeth shoes have a series of "vegan" shoes that use fake materials instead of animal skins!. Being vegan means that you are concerned about other things then just diet!. Therefore Hannibal is wrong!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

everyone's vegan for his/her own reason!. i don't consider anyone being a true vegan if they exploit animals for entertainment, experiments, labor, ect!. true, most vegans are concerned about their diet and the animals killed, but there are definitely some who have different views on this topic!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

according to Dictionary!.com, where there are 5 definitions, 4 of the 5 agree with Hannibal, the 5th stretches it a little says "especially one who uses no products derived from animals, as fur or leather!." It appears it's your choice!.
