Real Mayo Vs. Vegan Mayo?!
"Taste-wise", is it much worse than real mayo, what does it taste like and how do they compare on cholesterol!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
I find that veganaise tastes more vinegary!. It's still nice enough!. I can't comment too much on the taste as the mayo I used to use didn't taste like vinegar!.
There's no cholestrol in veganaise!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a former chef and a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and most vegan mayo is made with silken tofu as the egg component, and is made the same way, with mustard, vinegar, lemon juice and seasonings!.
I make mine in either a blender or food processor, even with a hand stick blender, if you are not a vegan, you can add some egg whites for a firmer texture, you make it the same way, Puree the base, and slowly add the oil in a slow steady stream!. It keeps long than regular mayo as there is not egg, and it does need more seasoning, and a bit of spice, I add some cayenne or tabasco to zip it up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's a very long time since I ate real mayo, so I can't say how the taste compares!.
But my meat-eating, almost carnivorous, brother didn't spot the difference when he ate potato salad I'd made with vegan mayo!.
Scottsmylie, the etymology of the word mayonnaise is not known for sure; it may be linked to an old French word for egg, but that's only one of many theories - another being that it was named 'mayennaise' after Charles de Lorraine, Duke of Mayenne!. So there doesn't seem to be any reason why an eggless version shouldn't be called mayonnaiseWww@FoodAQ@Com

Vegan mayo comes in several different brands, and they all taste a little different!. I like Veganaise the best!. It tastes creamy, it is very good to put on sandwiches!. It is not full of chemicals, and it contains no cholesterol!. Anything vegan is free from cholesterol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I use Nayonaise!. It has no cholesterol!.
Taste-wise, I think it's a bit more tangy than "real" mayonnaise!. If you eat it on a sandwich or in a cold pasta salad, then you can hardly tell the difference (at least, I couldn't)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I cant imagine what they put in vegan mayo!. If you ask me if it does not have eggs it is not mayo and they should call it something else like white spreading paste!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
