Here are a couple of facts for you:
Myth: Soy estrogens (isoflavones) are good for you!.
Truth: Soy isoflavones are phyto-endocrine disrupters!. At dietary levels, they can prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells!. Eating as little as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain and fatigue!.
Myth: Soy foods are safe and beneficial for women to use in their postmenopausal years!.
Truth: Soy foods can stimulate the growth of estrogen-dependent tumors and cause thyroid problems!. Low thyroid function is associated with difficulties in menopause!.
Consumption of unfermented soy products is probably not such a good idea!. Unfermented soy contains high levels of a number of compounds that can: block the absorption of calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc; stunt growth; and alter hormone levels, disrupting menstruation, lowering testosterone, increasing the risk of breast cancer, and causing thyroid and prostate complications!. Unfermented soy includes things like soy milk, soy burgers, soy hot dogs, and tofu!.
Sorry!.!.!.!.sounds like your dad is correct!

No food/drink has been proven beyond a doubt to cause any kind of cancer!.
The thing about studies is that it's different from scientific research!. Studies are no doubt funded by those who wish to sway the outcome so it's impossible to get the truth most of the time!. For almost everything the food industry claims, there's another part of the food industry that claims the exact opposite!. Which is the truth!? To most folks, sadly, it's simply the one they agree with and fits their beliefs!. That's a naive approach!.
Take PETA for example!. With all of the sensational stunts they pull, what would stop them from outright lying about something!? Do you think that scruples rule the day there!? The meat and soy industries too!. They're selling products!. They are going to do whatever they can to make their products look good and the competition look bad!.

There is no food that has been scientifically proven to cause cancer - or to cause, treat or cure it either!.
Studies are just that - they don't prove anything, nor do they claim to!. Other studies will show different results, and later studies by the same team using different subjects may well have different results!. Studies merely suggest possibilities!.
Regarding soya and cancer - Soya proteins contain isoflavones that can mimic a weak oestrogen effect!. It's not the same as the oestrogen the body makes - it is 1,000 times weaker than the body's oestrogen, but it's this that has caused concern about a link with oestrogen positive cancers!.
In fact here is no scientific evidence that soya causes, prevents, contributes to or affects the progress of cancer, including oestrogen positive breast cancer which is the one most often cited!. There are those in the field who argue that isoflavones may be of help in preventing breast cancer or be beneficial to women who have had breast cancer!.
There is current research into whether increasing phyto-oestrogens in the diet helps to prevent breast or prostate cancer, and a study in 2002 found that women with the highest levels of soya products in their diets had the lowest breast density!. Higher breast density is associated with higher breast cancer risk!.
Women with the highest levels of isoflavones in their diet are reported to have significant risk reductions for uterine cancer!.
Oh and Hwank, before you award yourself another best answer - the answer you give here is someone else's answer from another question, copied and pasted!. It always looks rather silly, every time you do it, because you've left in the reference to the questioner's dad from the original answer:
