Answers:
i am a vegetarian!.!.i am also 13!. my parents refuse to buy me vegan things, and i had to make a lot of PowerPoint's, posters, and show them a lot of info on how healthy vegetarianism is!.!.the first thing i do when i get a job is become a veganWww@FoodAQ@Com

Well being a vegetarian is way better than nothing at all!. So I still think that they are helping!.

However now knowing about the animals being treated in dairy farms and egg farms!. When my mom says "you should just go back to being a vegetarian" I tell her I would much sooner eat meat than eat milk or eggs b/c the animals are treated for worse for milk and eggs than they are for their meat!.
But I will never eat meat again, so I will be a vegan!.

If they are vegetarians for ethical reasons then maybe one day they will choose to go vegan, like I did!. Its better than them not being vegetarian at all!.

also: i would perhaps eat local eggs from nicely treated hens but that is rarely available for most people!.

But even those who have local DAIRY COWS that are treated nicely!.!.!. They still are being milked against their will!. For those who say its okay!. As your mother, girlfriend, wife, aunt!.!. any female if they want to breast feed all the children in their neighborhood for the rest of her life!. Chances are the answer is no!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are not as hypocritical as meat eaters who are like "oh, i could never eat my dog, but some animals were meant to be food"!. Isnt it also more hypocritical for meat eaters to complain about vegetarians for not caring about animals enough!?

Of course I care!. I avoid eggs and milk as much as possible!. Even if I cannot completeley eliminate everything produced by animals, I am at least making progress!. Do you really think it is better to not even try and make a difference, just because you cant go all-out!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm vegan, and have been for about three years!.!.!. for seven years I was vegetarian!.

When people ask questions like this I usually like to point out that, regardless of the issue of hypocrisy (unless a vegetarian is obnoxious all the time and deserves to be called a hypocrite), any step toward minimizing animal suffering is important and should be praised, not criticized!. I don't criticize others if they are trying to reduce the amount of animal products they consume!.!.!. what kind of encouragement is that!?

I don't find it difficult to be vegan based on my enjoyment of food!.!.!. I don't really miss the things I had to give up in order to become vegan!. However, it is more expensive, especially where I live, to buy vegan food!. Produce, soy products and anything deemed 'natural' or organic are all VERY expensive!.!.!. so it is frustrating sometimes to see that I'm paying almost twice as much for half the calories as a person who buys, say, Kraft dinner and hot dogs!.

I'm fully aware of the suffering that dairy cows and chickens have to endure to produce milk and eggs, and it makes me sick!. I wish that the world were different, and factory farming didn't exist!. When given the opportunity, I will tell people what I know, in the hopes that even if they don't become vegan, they might buy from local farms that have more ethical practices!.

I'm glad that I'm vegan now, but I don't think that my seven years as a devout vegetarian (including leather, gelatin, rennet, etc!. and products tested on animals) should be discounted or criticized!. I did the best I could given my circumstances!.

If I could possibly venture to give some advice!.!.!. you don't have to excuse the factory farming industry, but try to be a little more understanding of people's circumstances and why they make the choices they make!.!.!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

shannon, your statement is true but doesn't make any sense, because the treatment of animals for dairy produce is just as horrific as slaughter!. that's fact that you can't argue, unless the products are obtained in an humane way!.

in response to your question, i think most vegetarians like the idea of being vegan, but it's a hell of a lot more complicated than just becoming vegetarian!. because such a massive amount of food contains some kind of animal product, it's incredibly expensive to source foodstuffs that are vegan friendly and still give you a balanced diet!.
with all the money and time in the world i wouldn't hesitate to progress from vegetarian to vegan, but it's simply not possible with my lifestyle, and most peoples'!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would hope most vegetarians only buy organically raised eggs and milk!. Like stonyfield for example who raise their cows in the most humane ways possible!.

people like you drive me nuts with your "all or nothing" attitudes!. They are taking a step towards alleviating animal cruelty and your bashing them for it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

i live in wisconsin with small farms alll around me, and many relatives who milk dairy cows!.
if all you have seen of dairy farms is the ones shown on "meet your meat", YOU my dear have alot to learn!.
i buy organic free range eggs from a small farm in the country, and those chickens are happy as can be rippin around in the dirt!.and cows in MY neck of the woods live on small farms averaging perhaps 50 to 100 heads of cattle!. they are milked twice a day and spend most of thier time outdoors in huge fields!. except when the farmers feel its too cold for them, then they stay inside and keep warm:)
most farmers know each cow in thier herd, and many are named!.
i dont eat meat, but i do eat dairy products!. and thats my choice, you have choices of your own, and i will do my best not to judge you about them :)
all the best!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

"Do you think vegetarianism is hypocritical!?"

Veganism is a subcategory of vegetarianism!. :|Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is the mantra of veganism, rampant hypocrisy!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I hope you realise that chickens and cows/goats/whatever milk you are drinking don't live miserably!. Producing dairy and eggs is what they do, it's like humans going to the bathroom, if they don't do it it will probably kill them!. It's nature!.
I understand that chickens in cages live horribly, so buy free range so that eventually cage eggs won't even be sold!. But producing milk doesn't hurt cows and producing eggs doesn't hurt chickens!.
Understand that before you come on here accusing people of being hypocritical!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love a nice thick piece of steak , im at the top of the food chain and like eating other animals and i like cheese also! I think not eating meats is insane ! So eat the grass and leaves and whatever ill have a nice thick hamburger with cheese!Www@FoodAQ@Com

No animals are slaughtered for their milk or eggs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
