Many societies subsist off of a vegetarian diet, but if you want to go back to the earliest recorded vegan, it would have to be Daniel!.

Daniel 1:8-16
"But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way!.
Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel, but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink!. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age!? The king would then have my head because of you!.”
Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,
“Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink!. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see!.”
So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days!.
At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food!.
So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead!."

This is the NIV translation!. I chose this because I think it's easier to read for most people!. I prefer the KJV myself because of its similarities to German!. The KJV specifies that it's the king's meat and wine that Daniel has a problem with, and lists that he wants vegetables and "pulse" to eat, pulse referring to edible seeds/legumes!.

Great question, you get a star!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, there a very few known facts about St!. David!. It is known he was born in the 6th Century and many believe that to be 500- 589, but even that is conjecture!. It is known he was born and died of a good age in the 6th century!. How they can determine his diet is beyond me bearing in mind the lack of information!.

I didn't open Rann T's link because I knew it was a virus!. Everyone should never open links on here at the moment!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
